I think pets can be fun - I hope to see them have some intractable features like feeding / playing or leaving at the house as an actual 'thing' rather then leaving it as a magic pocket of animals lol. So you could have a pen of animals.
I really hope they dont make main bosses pets though like seeing 'Diablo' as a pet in.. lol
Finally I hope they can be obtained in a way that explains why they are your pet.
Definitely.. lol. There must be differences else you will run into scales of gray, lack of choice, lack of matter (substance), and imo a lack of fun.
This is doing it wrong. You create differences, then you ensure that these differences are desirable. This is very hard to do - but that doesnt excuse taking the lazy way out "everything to be the same".

Non combat pets usually don't have a bonus or anything, just something for people to buy or collect by doing stuff in the game, you can just have them out to add flavor to your character.
I like your cartoon Gramul.
I hope to Yoshi these "pets" if we do get pets and I would really like pets are just that... PETS and nothing more. Only pets that should have any stat at all are the pet class pets, like SMN, BST or w/e pet class SE decides to implement. That said, they better implement a pet class.
I was kind of surprised to hear bonus talk, though I think you could make pets do small supportive things in solo play like having a personal snurble - but making anything beyond that would step on pet classes toes, or at least make pet classes really weird (using two pets at once).I like your cartoon Gramul.

Besides.. Babemoth is too cute to see war :P (on second thought, Gramul's looks pretty pissed.. lol)

imo, I think pets should be different from one another. Whether it be by default or if a player is allowed to raise them in different ways. I would much prefer a default for any pets other than the Chocobo you get to raise.
For example, would be great if the Behemoth would add a STR and Attack Power boon while fighting alongside you, but when not summoned, it adds to your Defense or VIT.
Bomb would boost your Fire Elemental Attribute and your Magic Attack Potency, and while withdrawn, would still boost your Fire Element and also your Magic Accuracy.
This idea alone would make each pet "somewhat" tied to a certain class, but if you were to add ANY diversity to the pets at all, this is what will happen anyways. I am not sure how this pet system will work at all, but I think it would be pretty nice to see them add to your stats a bit, or at least have outside abilities for Gathering and Crafting classes.

Ya no thanks that mean players who don't want play need to get them and pay for them just because of the small boost it give you. Pets should just pet that pets noting more in the sense of boosting your char they can do other things like fight other pets they can have there own level and stats for fighting other pets like what wow is doing but that where i draw the line.imo, I think pets should be different from one another. I don't really care if they do what you saying i just think it make it harder for players to go on there way just to get a pet that they may never get just because of the boost.
