I would say the blade of light is the Adventurer(Warrior of light) and the blade of might is Gauis(The Empire) but we shall see....

Even if the moon should burst with radiant plumes,
The dawn is still certain to come in the morning,
But over an infected land vile gods arise,
The sword of light, its wrath hitherto buried, hunts them,
The sword of darkness, that has become boundless, suppresses them,
Only one blade may determine the world's fate.
    ~From Louisoix's Memoirs

    Line 1:
Gleißen = to gleam, to glisten, with flames. A verb, it is referring to the way in which dalamud "bursts" open, suggesting beams and rays of bright light. Thus my choice for "with radiant plumes" to convey that sense of rays of fire.

    Line 3:
Ödem = Edema = An unusual retention of fluid in the body tissue. Hence my translation of "infected".
Wüst = Harsh, like the nastiness of the desert. It can mean desolate, but also wild or possibly forsaken. Sounds like the primals, so I used "vile" and made sure "gods" was not capitalised.

    Line 5:
Tilgt = Blotted, kind of like an ink blot. In the context, I've gone for "suppress".

    Line 6:
Los = Lot, as in drawing lots or your lot in life. Hence the contextual choice to use "fate".
Thanks a lot for all the translations, everyone!

It does seem more like the Light and Darkness/Might is in reference to Eorzea and Garlemald respectively. Sorry to point out the obvious below a bit. Trying to maintain perspective.

We Adventurers of Eorzea bring the light of understanding, manifesting as an Echo that allows us to communicate with the Beast Tribes and even the Primals. We also have the backing of the Twelve, presumably deities of Light. With these assets we hunt the Primals, possibly to gain control over them.

The Garlean Empire is an evil (or "dark") and mighty force that seeks to eradicate the Primals outright. These "eikons" are obstacles in their path of conquest, and every Garlean is taught that associating with them in any way makes you an enemy. (I am curious how they will react to the news that their precious Meteor was an eikon.)

"Sword", or rather "blades": a metaphor used in the Seventh Umbral Era prophecy, interpreted to mean "adventurer(s)" among other things. A title gained for doing all Battlecraft Leve achievements is "The Sword of Eorzea". A sword is a tool, just as we are tools that serve a greater purpose than ourselves - our Grand Companies, nation, home, and gods.

"In prophecy are a myriad truths concealed. The eye of man decreeth which shall be revealed."
    - Urianger

Edit: I checked the German version in Google Translate. It translated the last bit as "From Louisoix Legacy". Since it doesn't know Louisoix is a proper noun, I'm assuming it's "From Louisoix's Legacy".

I think the ödem here is more another word for öde.

I think the analysis is pretty solid in this thread. It all seems rather straight forward to me now:
    • The Primals in ARR are draining the Aether out of the planet.
    • The 'Blades' are the two main forces in the world out to stop them: Eorzean Alliance (Born in Light), and Garlean Empire (Forged in Dark/Might).
    • We seek to banish them (but use their essences as SMN), Garleans seek to enslave them (Just as did back in the 1.0 prelude, when Midgardsormr attacked the Garlean dreadnought Agrius which held the Primals prisoner)
    • The choice of which 'Blade' to use represents the ARR's main struggle between the Garlean Empire and the Eorzean Alliance over dealing with this issue.

Not exactly "another word", it's just the dative form of it.

As far as the two swords go. I personally think it might refer to us (might) and the twelve (light). I think what is mean when it says we have to chose is this. We put our trust at the end with the twelve, but instead they were not strong enough to defend us and cage Bahamut again. So do choose to trust them again in the future or do we choose to handle it our selves (might). It just seems that we put all our faith in these gods and they let our world get destroyed. Shall we follow them blindly again or shall we claim our selves gods and tear down the heavens.

Good call. Just that given the realm has been reborn, I'm not confident that "wasteland" is what they are aiming for. We had that in the old Mor Dhona, not the new one. It's... a tough cookie to crack.
