Question related to the ffxiv lore...

Are the world's in all of the final fantasies the same? I just beat ff13 (ff13-2 is coming in the mail) and the crystal connected to the moon reminds me of something I may have seen while play ff14 (although the moon was partially destroyed) and coerthas does, to some extent, remind me of grand pulse...

No they are not the same.

Final Fantasy XIV planet is called Hydaelyn. We are living in the Realm of Eorzea. More information about FFXIV's world & lore at FF@Wikia

They might be in same universe.. perhaps.. but i have no concrete evidence of that lol

Each Final Fantasy have it own universe so this is why chars from old ff never show up in new ones. Besides i guess cid but it's just the name and what he does like build airship overall it's a new person sometime with a diff job.

The only cameo is Final Fantasy Tactics, where Ramza Beoulve accidently bring Cloud to Ivalice. :P

that don't count tho it's not a number final fantasy so it does not matter what they do with a none number type final fantasy.

As has been stated, every FF game is set within it's own unique universe and world, with only some recurring elements between each game, with some elements being pretty much in every title and others only in selected titles (chocobos, moogles, Cid, airships, Job System, monsters/summons/magic/items/equipment/crystals etc).

Also it should go without saying that FFXIV is full of references and allusions to past FF titles, a few of which are listed here (this is by no means an exhaustive list though): http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/F..._XIV/Allusions

Not quite - Gilgamesh from FFV also shows up as a boss and unJunctionable GF in FFVIII, and as a Priority Mark in FFXII (not to mention as a DLC enemy in FFXIII-2, the Gilgameshes in FFIX and XI though are not the same one but just similar-seeming characters with the same name).

But yeah, the only reason Gil manages to show up in multiple FF worlds was related to his departure in FFV - he was cast into the Rift by X-death at the end of the game and remained there until FFVIII when Odin's sword Zantesuken breached dimensions and freed him. From then on presumably he gained the ability to travel the Rift at his leisure, which would explain his FFXII appearance.

There was also a werewolf character called 'Lone Wolf' in FFV who also showed up in a cameo in FFVI apparently but I can't remember the details sadly.

I also remembered bonus content on FF2 - GBA version which has the dead guy party in new dungeon then meet this character from FF4 (Kain I think). My memory's a bit hazy tho... ;D

It is a hard question to answer, since SE have never handed down a definitive answer, although there are clues.

The best term might be multiverse. While each world (Ivalice, Spira, Hydaelyn, etc) is its own existance and shares no mundane history, these worlds are bound together by what we call the Void.

As XIII-2 and also some parts of XIV have suggested, mess with the fabric of your world too much and the stability of what separates it from the Void will break down, allowing all sorts of mayhem to leak through. This includes but is not limited to:
    - Gilgamesh, who gets trapped in the Void more often than he would like.
    - Omega, destroyer of civilizations.
    - Shinryu, who seeks power.
    - Characteristics of other worlds, such as the odd cameo.
    - Other nhilistic or consuming powers, such as atomos.

There is a school of throught that follows the ashes-to-ashes dust-to-dust mentality. ie: From the Void the world has come and to the Void it shalt one day return. This theme runs strong in XIII-2 and is exemplified with Etro's gate.

Dissidia also presents us with a world that is breaking apart at the seams so much that things are leaking in from just about everywhere. This allows beings from other worlds in the Void where their own structure has also grown somewhat strained for whatever reason to be summoned over.

If you apply a Kingdom Hearts theory, Disney worlds are also within the Void, though that is stretching the theory.

So to put the theory more simply, the Final Fantasy multiverse is the Void itself and each world is crafted from it.
