Where to buy armor and weapons?

So i played XI since the day it came out on and off for a few years and always loved it.
I just got XIV today and i figured i would be familar with figuring things out, like getting newer armor and weapons.. im located in granadia(sp) how the heck do i get new stuff?
I chopped at some trees for a few hours and got some branches..can i do anything to make weapons with those.

this game is pretty boring, i think i only saw about 20 people today on my server.

The vast majority of your equipment will come from other players. Just head to your local Market Ward and see what's for sale. On Besaid, Ul'dah's market ward seems to be the most popular. If you're in Gridania, the market ward is just slightly north of the aetheryte.

The maple branches are used by of the DoH classes to make weapon components, though i can't remember which.

Gridania is quite a slow city state. It doesn't take too long to make your way to Uldah, so you could try going there. You will have better luck finding equipment.

As said, equipment and gear is basically entirely player-made so you will need to go to the market wards to find some. Gridanian market wards are usually quite empty, which is why i suggested Uldah. Market wards are the equivalent of FFXI's auction house and are designated by a small red dot on the map near the aetherite in each city. At the market ward entrance you can search for the item you want and then teleport to the ward where the item is located.
