Changing Servers at Release

I don't think we have been told yet how we will arrive/choose servers at launch. It is my most anticipated information, because re-gathering with friends/linkshells is of utmost importance to me.

My question for the final live letter, which was not answered, was this:

"How will our character will first log in to ARR - will we have to select a server or, will we arrive on our existing server? If we will have to select a server, will the server names be announced in advance?"

It got 26 likes. ^^; I would still LOVE an answer to this question. Certainly by Beta phases 3 or 4.


EDIT: My belief and understanding of previous official posts is that:

We will arrive on our existing server. We will then, or later, have the option to transfer to another server (one-time free of charge.) It makes NO sense to me that they would have us (blindly) select a server upon logging in our existing characters. That would be utter hodge-podge and random loss of friends and linkshells, especially now that we know there will be over 20 servers.

IF they will have us CHOOSE a server upon logging into ARR, then certainly a list of servers and their regions should be up well in advance.

I still hope and believe we will simply land on our existing servers, allowing us to re-connect, and then as a group decide if server hopping is desired.

I'm sure we'll eventually get an answer by the time Beta rolls around. Right now the team is on holiday so we shouldn't expect responses from them until after the New Year

No....

They say that we can't transfer our characters to new server, but we are allowed to create new characters on new or old servers.

I'm sure they have a plan. We just want to know the plan. In a timely manner.

Hopefully they'll also announce if the ps3 and pc version will be up at the same time...

The big question I still want to know is if they will be creating an official RP server like Yoshi-P said he wanted to do sometime back in an interview. There was mention he wanted to do this but I don't think there's been any mention of it since. A lot of the RP community is still waiting for a notification about this so we all know where to gather in advance instead of having to go through a big long poll like we've gone the past two times. Plus it lets those who absolutely despise RPers and newer people who want to get into the act know what server to avoid, or what server to go to.

I don't think it's necessary because you'll be playing all servers with multi-characters.

I want a "hardcore" server. ^^
