Agreed, clicking "Auto-Route" which moves you to an exact location as seen in many new asian MMOs is definitely the best way to do things, progress etc etc. Not being lazy at all etc.

LOL Yeah, let's go back to the days when an npc said "Hey! Go here! I'll mark the location on your map!" only they didn't mark the location, so you either

A. Spent hours looking for the place hoping to stumble across it by luck

B. Got another player to show/tell you where it is, or

C. Had to log off and look for it online.

Because having an NPC tell you where what you're looking for is is no fun. No fun at all. No, the more hours you spend frustrated as heck, looking for the location of the quest, the better! Heck, I even do that in real life! Like when I have the GPS running in my car to tell me where a new location is downtown, I just have it set to get me to downtown. Then I turn it off and drive for hours trying to find the place! Sure, it costs me gas money and a lot of time! But actually getting directions to the place you want to be? Where's the fun in that!?!?

You mean like EVERY single quest in XI?

Example:
NPC: <player> go to the north and find me contraband.... it's in a cold place far, far away.
NPC: that's all i can give you, now go i need it before 0:00, it's now 18:00

I don't think it will be in phase 1 and 2 because you are starting a new character which means you have to get to level 10 before you start the class quest (switch class quest) in the guild or how ever you unlock them and if Ul'dah and Limsa has no questlines until beta stage 3 (I am assuming just nameless npcs if you can access them at all) you can't get the class unlocked to proceed down the story to get to the job.

this isn't a racing game for retards where there is a bright and colorful racing line marked on the street.
