Fix'ed that for youAnimation lock in 1.0 prevents you from moving, but you can still use abilities and WS in succession. You just can't see it through the animation.
GCD creates an artificial urgency where it seems like you have to act every three seconds or you're wasting time/resources. It's like the stamina bar all over again. Making it longer would be tedious. Making it shorter would be chaos.
I think it's better to lose the GCD and return to individual timers. That way, all your combos and abilities are compartmentalized and flow from one to the next.
1.0: Combo Step 1 > animation lock > Combo Step 2 > animation lock >Combo Step 3 > This combo set is now on cooldown
2.0 alpha: Combo Step 1 > 3s > Combo Step 2 > 3s > Combo Step 3 > 3s to the next thing
Edit: whoops, posted too soon
======
oh and, later you can reduce 3s GCD by abilities/level/equip, that might help to impose "sense of progression" for your character
did I spit something dangerous? XD

Me thinks you're a little late to the party.

With the GCD I can pretend I'm Sona when I'm on BRD.
All MMOs have a "GCD system" to some extent, because limiting certain actions to once every few seconds (typically the shortest amount of time they could be executed anyway) drastically eases the strain on the servers. This is a technical feature for performance, not a gameplay decision to make things boring.I don't know if this was posted or talked about, but in all the videos I seen there is a GCD on the battle system, this to me seems boring, you click a ability and wait, then click same ability and wait some more. I really don't see the reasoning for the whole GCD mechanic. I would like to see longer CDs on spells.
But if you look at the latest alpha video, it sure doesn't look like anyone is sitting around waiting to me...

1.0 Stone Recast: 6 Seconds
ARR Stone Recast: 4 Seconds
1.0 Aero Recast: 6 Seconds
ARR Aero Recast: 4 Seconds
Both spells share the same cooldown timer in ARR, so you can't cast a spell immediately after using one. 1.0 didn't have this, so you could start casting a spell as soon as the other was done, while you waited for the other cooldown. 1.0 had more "spam."

As far as I can tell from the videos, the casting times for stone and aero are the same length as the GDC so you can cast another spell as soon as the other one is done. In 1.0 you could start casting another before the cast time for the previous was done. Semantics I know. (please don't hate me DB ; ; )1.0 Stone Recast: 6 Seconds

According to the pop-up window, the casting time for stone is 3 seconds, and the casting time for aero is 2.5 seconds. In 1.0, stone was 2 seconds and aero was 3 seconds. It was still possible to cast more magic at a faster rate in 1.0.As far as I can tell from the videos, the casting times for stone and aero are the same length as the GDC so you can cast another spell as soon as the other one is done. And I could never hate you! :3
Honestly I can tell so much has been changed but the changes are needed and I dont see a problem wit the new system. Plus people need to realize this is Alpha, and Beta will have some mods as well as when 2.0 is officially realeased.

Wait until you have a level 50 job before commenting on global cooldowns we don't know how it will look like
