Happy 25th Anniversary Final Fantasy

The four Warriors of Light set out for adventure 25 years ago...

Square-Enix (formerly Square) and Hironobu Sakaguchi published what was to be there final game, Final Fantasy, 25 years ago to this day, December 18th, 1987. Little did we know then, that Square would change the world and define the entire RPG genre for the next 2 decades.

As we wait for the triumphant return of Final Fantasy XIV: A Real Reborn in 2013, I have nothing but the utmost of respect for Square-Enix. They have worked hard, succeeded, and made a few mistakes, but ultimately they stayed true to the fans. Thanks to the efforts of Yoshi-P and his current team, the future of Final Fantasy looks extremely bright.

Personally, I remember making my first game trade ever; The Legend of Zelda traded to obtain the original Final Fantasy. I still own it to this day. To many of us, Final Fantasy is more than just a game. The stories and adventures that we as players have taken part in has shaped our some of the very things about us. Whether we like to admit it or not, at some point or another we have been touched by the series, be it music, gameplay, graphics, characters, or the stories.

Here's to another amazing 25 years and beyond.

Happy 25th anniversary!

It wasn't just Horonobu Sakaguchi that is now happily wasting his and our time making silly surfing cellphone minigames, but also Akitoshi Kawazu (whose time Square Enix is wasting in making just another silly cellphone minigame, that at least isn't on surfing) and the other relevant name isn't very well received here, so I'll write it very small and in white: Hiromichi Tanaka. And I'm not exactly sure on what he's doing.

I know it's had its ups and downs and some may argue it's not as good as it once was, though the only FF game I considered to be bad was XIV. The franchise still has an exciting future though and once Square move on from milking FF XIII I'm sure people will be happier. I'm just grateful it's still here at all, especially after the launch of XIV, that broke my heart but ARR clearly proves that Square care and want to restore our faith in the brand. I think FF XV will blow people away.

Happy birthday! To the franchise of games and the company in which products I've been spending the majority of my free time for the last 20 years (give or take).

I hope to be here for another 25 years enjoying Final Fantasy and other games as I did (or more) as when I was a kid.

For me, Final Fantasy has played a profound role in shaping who I am today. It has filled my childhood with happiness, imagination and passion. As an adult, it continues to inspire me and drive me to become better at what I love to do - the very things Final Fantasy has taught me my whole life - to create beautiful art to tell amazing stories.

Thank you Square for helping shape not only myself, but the entire world. This franchise is nothing short of amazing. And thank you to Yoshi-p and the FFXIV dev team for helping keep Final Fantasy alive.

I was 9 years old when this came out, first Final fantasy I played is NA FFII SNES(AKA FFIV)
