Anyone wanted to see any kind of merits like FFXI had?

I feel like if they bring something close to merit system in ffxi , where you can upgrade your character with stats/new spells/etc would be pure awesomeness, so we can be more unique. FFXI fans likes partying and such, gathering points and such, i felt like at the end that im just wasting xp once you have reach all jobs to cap(beside craft)

I believe yoshi mentioned something about expanding abilities without raising the level cap.

I loved the concept in XI and wouldn't mind seeing something similar in XIV. It is nice to be able continue to develop your character in your chosen role even after you've reached cap.

Although, I might be a bit crazy as I do personally enjoy grinding in MMO's for some reason, and in XI I was happy to have a reason to do that again when I felt the desire to do so. :P

i really would like merits or something that's pretty much the same thing (whatever SE wants to call it for ARR). how i look at it comes from TOR were their are mobs that go from weak to champion, even at the same level they will kill you given there rank, not just level difference like usual. this comes from experience playing TOR for the first time I didn't pay attention to the rank, only the level I got into a fight and died when i tried to kill something at lv.16 but it was champion. further fights past that even a couple of elites on me pretty much took me out.

What i take from this is that in 2.0/ARR we could kinda have this similar effect but for ppl not mobs. an example is two plds at 50 with af, one does that merits ie: skill caps, earning extra abilities, traits, etc. and the other doesn't do any of these. their will be a clear difference in which one can fulfill their roles better since one top's out the job and the other doesn't. this is what i want to see between ppl on same jobs yes they could be wearing the same gear and have similar skill level but one puts the little more effort into the job and puts him over his fellow players.

i want to see ppl that whether they do a little bit or go all out be classified from weak/normal to champions, etc. I know in Xi it had merits and what not but i really want to see a clear distinction between players that go the extra mile or even miles :] yes we did have gaps between players and their jobs in 1.0 if it was their main, how much money they put into it, what gear they had, skill level, etc. but to have a gap that includes them have extra abilities, traits, etc would be nice.

The merit system was extremely flawed. I don't want to see the specific system itself return. I do want to (eventually, not immediately) see some kind of post-level-cap advancement features, but not XI's system, because it was both too limiting and too pigeon-holey.

This. The "leveling-up-but-not-really-leveling" thing was bad.

Most other games have their level cap advancement in the form of gear upgrades, PVP, and zone/content unlocks.

Upgrading base stats and abilities makes it very hard to justify raising the level cap, and when you do raise it, well, you saw what happened with Abyssea.

Then why should they advance the level cap at all?

Because it's a way of resetting the game and shortening the gap between people who have just joined the game, and those who have been here for a long time. It also makes it easier to ensure that new content is actually played by people instead of it being dropped in favor of familiar, easier content with similar rewards.

I disagree with 100% of this post.

New players should not be able to be as good as an old player quickly. They should be able to advance quick enough to get to endgame and be able to do it, but to truly get decked out with the best of the best gear it SHOULD TAKE YEARS. Especially in a game with multiple jobs per 1 character.

XI never had an issue with people playing new content. So the idea people would not play new content because of old is stupid. PEOPLE SHOULD PLAY BOTH. That is what every mmo developer should do. Make it where content compounds on itself. Make it where a game has so much to do no one can ever get bored of it. Make all new and old content relevant.

Hell no, Merit system as said before was flawed. Few were pleasing while the majority of the merits were an obvious NO. Which made everybody, except SMN at least, merit the same damn thing.
