if it's the signature pic, I see it allright too.
So Gramul, would you be up for something like this, or how do you consider this idea?

RP servers I agree with, that is a great idea.
Servers with Low drop rates, low XP, Perma Death...... there would be very very few who would play on a server with worse drop rate, xp, or perma death. And I am one of those hardcore who woke up at 4am to kill a dragon. I can garentee this is absolutly the last thing hardcore players want.
I do not see hardly anyone playing on those kind of servers, hardcore players or other wise.
Taking the harder path to the same result is prime example of stupid. Would be like telling your boss you would work for minimum wage instead of $30/hr and being happy just would not happen.

only SE has dedicated servers.
people would cheat if they have control over the servers and screw up the game. just like pirate servers.

like you said its a feature from COD and similar games, nothing for a MMO. If you want to create your own rules etc. do what ppl always did make a pserver.

those not liking the idea are basically those who are happy with the direction mmo's are taking. it's easy to say this is stupid cause the mmo is how you like them. you can't say people don't want grinds or carrot on sticks, or forced party play or caps on everything, or death penalties via ffxi, but the reality is some people/a lot of people would love this. how long have you been on these forums or ffxi forums, people want old school mmo feel, they are yes minority but there is, i can guarantee, enough to fill up at least 1 server just as tight as any other server. people love progression and party play, they are the 2 things they live for in mmo's. so to say who would go to a server with these options is saying just that, your happy with the servers and how mmo's are panning out. has nothing to do with the idea here at hand, it's giving extra options to the same exact mmo, an mmo that already has many many servers. really this is the only way i can see mmo's moving towards, it's this or they are gonna keep finding themselves going f2p and losing customers.
there has been probably multiple threads that have reached 200pages on these topics, and while the majority are fighting for not ...there were tons that want this. if you were on these forums pre 1.0 launch even, you would of seen this too. every other thread about caps, death penalties, party play, lower drop rates. people might not want ffxi, but the shell of it, the soul of it, yes. witch with options in any mmo it can create this feel.
what if mmo's took a 360 and all of a sudden all mmo's that release from now on took a year just to hit max level and everything was 1% drop rates. then would this idea be a good one? ..lol yep cause now your thinking for yourself. yes i would be able to pick the lower drop rates and easier progression to max.

reason why games went F2P because the were pure WOW/EQ2 clones with no other substance to make it different. FFXI was made somthing like EQ1 but had its own thing added to it. FFXIV is doing the same but to modern MMO style.those not liking the idea are basically those who are happy with the direction mmo's are taking. it's easy to say this is stupid cause the mmo is how you like them. you can't say people don't want grinds or carrot on sticks, or forced party play or caps on everything, or death penalties via ffxi, but the reality is some people/a lot of people would love this. how long have you been on these forums or ffxi forums, people want old school mmo feel, they are yes minority but there is, i can guarantee, enough to fill up at least 1 server just as tight as any other server. people love progression and party play, they are the 2 things they live for in mmo's. so to say who would go to a server with these options is saying just that, your happy with the servers and how mmo's are panning out. has nothing to do with the idea here at hand, it's giving extra options to the same exact mmo, an mmo that already has many many servers. really this is the only way i can see mmo's moving towards, it's this or they are gonna keep finding themselves going f2p and losing customers.

the game should only be play how they intended plain & simple. to have a dedicated server you also need all the important files to the game which means alot of hacking will be going on thats just a fact and a bad move for a game people pay money. SE will not give us that kinda power.
i tell you one thing if i had the power of a server i'll cheat just because i can, i can guarantee i wont be the only one.

@indira as for how they intend to make the game, as you can see if SE had a full launch without a broken engine the game would of been a totally different game then what we are getting. so that is subjective. warhammer is a total 360 to what it was at launch as well. even ffxi is not the same game it was when launched. to say that they wouldn't have an extra 100K worth of subs right now if they had a dedicated server that kept ffxi like it was pre abysea you think that there wouldn't be a server right now completed full of players? that's nonsense.

FFXI is way different now i just went back. EQ1 did go back to the old school servers only if you wanted to. thats part makes plenty of sense i agree with you 100% on that.@indira as for how they intend to make the game, as you can see if SE had a full launch without a broken engine the game would of been a totally different game then what we are getting. so that is subjective. warhammer is a total 360 to what it was at launch as well. even ffxi is not the same game it was when launched. to say that they wouldn't have an extra 100K worth of subs right now if they had a dedicated server that kept ffxi like it was pre abysea you think that there wouldn't be a server right now completed full of players? that's nonsense.
biggest issue with MMO's they dont update the old content to be viable when new stuff comes out. either through higher level caps or different difficulty settings. they destroyed FFXI taking off level caps and keeping the old content as it was when it was released and sticking lv90 mobs in rank 2 mission areas @_@
one thing GW2 did well was no matter if your level is capped when you go to the lower level areas you were auto level synced to the highest level of that zone, thing i love about that is nothing will ever go to waste, everything will always be a challenge your level was just mainly to let you explore deeper on the map.

i'm not asking for these servers to be controlled by players, i meant controlled by SE themselves. maybe didn't explain it right but i said in first post that they obviously can't give us something we can control and with a billion possible types of rule sets but they as a company can give a hand full of extra options that will cater the mmo to multiple types of game styles. lol yeah i agree ..no way i would pay to have others in control of it, i'm talking bout set options at character creation in what type of server you want to join. that is no different from joining a pvp or pve server or going to the dedicated rp server or eu server. except it would have mmo nitch options to them.

no, it doesn't mean that. But it doesn't mean your ideas are the way MMOs should go.those not liking the idea are basically those who are happy with the direction mmo's are taking.
Most of what you're proprosing is just relics of the past. You don't need severe death penalties and shitty drop rates to enjoy an MMO. I don't know anyone who wants harsher death penalites or harder to get drops. I know a few people who want slower EXP, but that's just because those people love mindless killing more than doing events. That's fine, but you can always start over / make an alt if you love grinding so much. You don't need special servers for that.
Permadeath only works well in games where staying alive isn't overly difficult. You can't have permadeath and have a game with enemies that kill people constantly left and right, no matter how skilled you are (a lot of FFXI's newer content is like that, for isntance) It also only works well when leveling up doesn't take overly long, such that it doesn't take you forever to get back to the challenging content again after dying.
