With each class being limited to a single weapon, it doesn't make sense to include weapon skill levels. Your class level is essentially your weapon's skill level.

And plus, isn't attaining XX level enough? I shouldn't have to put a stop on leveling to go make sure that my weapon's skill level is up to par. It was kind of fun in FFXI (this could be the Stockholm Syndrome talking, however) but it could easily become a nightmare for certain situations.

Instead of just being ok with a single weapon per class, it should be more like ffxi where you can use multiple weapons. It was so much better because you could decide "you know what? i'll use a Scythe today instead of my Great sword" and also it brought more character development "training" with that weapon making you feel more complete. Yes it was a draw back "aww I have to skill up today" but it also gave you something to do. A goal to max out every skill or just every skill your job can use. It also makes that last "weapon skill" obtained that much more rewarding but that is just my thoughts =3

Skilling up different weapons to use was something that was ok to do outside of leveling or any other major activities, but when it comes down to it most jobs were only truly proficient in a couple weapons and you would be expected to use one of those in any content that actually mattered. It's not as if you could pick any weapon at will and join a major fight with it.

This is pretty irrelevant for FFXIV anyway since each class and job are restricted to one weapon.
