Suggestion: Individual Weapon Skill Ups !

Hello fellow beta testers and the amazing development team of FFXIV: ARR.
I would like to take a moment and express how successful the individual weapon skill ups that were attainable by every type of weapon on FFXI which i played much of and became to love. Having the ability to skill up a weapon to make it stronger and have some sort of difficulty in that was a very important gaming experience for FFXI and I believe it could prove very valuable in ARR as well. The reason is for most MMO players the most annoying part of playing is most players always look the same because of gear varitiey in which I dont think this will be a factor in this game however, I do believe that with everyone able to be the same level with the same weapons and so forth that it can pose the same threat. With having the ability to skill up a weapon of choice or all for that matter you can then have people that stand out because of hard time and dedication put forth earning that massively damaging hit or spell and so on. Well, either way I will pay the game for a very long time and have alot of faith in your development team. Good Luck !

With each class being limited to a single weapon, it doesn't make sense to include weapon skill levels. Your class level is essentially your weapon's skill level.

And plus, isn't attaining XX level enough? I shouldn't have to put a stop on leveling to go make sure that my weapon's skill level is up to par. It was kind of fun in FFXI (this could be the Stockholm Syndrome talking, however) but it could easily become a nightmare for certain situations.

Instead of just being ok with a single weapon per class, it should be more like ffxi where you can use multiple weapons. It was so much better because you could decide "you know what? i'll use a Scythe today instead of my Great sword" and also it brought more character development "training" with that weapon making you feel more complete. Yes it was a draw back "aww I have to skill up today" but it also gave you something to do. A goal to max out every skill or just every skill your job can use. It also makes that last "weapon skill" obtained that much more rewarding but that is just my thoughts =3

Everything should be more like XI.

Skilling up different weapons to use was something that was ok to do outside of leveling or any other major activities, but when it comes down to it most jobs were only truly proficient in a couple weapons and you would be expected to use one of those in any content that actually mattered. It's not as if you could pick any weapon at will and join a major fight with it.

This is pretty irrelevant for FFXIV anyway since each class and job are restricted to one weapon.

Ya i don't see this happening sorry they would have to remake the job system over again. Allow each class more weps because it's pointless to level up a class then have to level up there weps when it's pretty much what you doing in ffxiv level up a class = the skill like Donimo said.

I just don't see the point of adding this to FFXIV it was pain in the ass in FFXI having to skill up something that took forever.

Having different weapons equippable on a class != the skillups needing to take forever. It was indeed a slow painful process in XI, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be made faster. I didn't like the time it took either but I enjoyed the variety of different play styles I could use while still being on one class (and still different from other classes also using the same weapons, since you're using the different abilities in combination with the weapons), even if some were really only useful as solo. It was flexible and balanced (with jobs having "preferred" weapons still), just slow is all IMO.

That said, you're also right that we'll probably never see it for XIV. The armory system is here to stay and classes being tied to weapons is just how it will be.

I love to have different weps but people always make you use the best wep. If SE made a system where all weps are the same for the same job then people be mad about that. Remember in FFXI? where people made you use the best wep for your job? i always want to other wep but they made me use the best one for job.

But at least when i play Ninja i use a samurai wep due to the fact i had merits and it was ok to use at low level and 10x better for dps.

But ya sadly i don't think FFXIV would be like that maybe one day they change the system but for now it's here to stay.

I hear ya. To some extent it depended on the job you played I think. I ran as DRK main most the time and scythe and g.sword were de rigueur for most applications, but I could fairly often get away with dual swords or axes on /NIN. Mix in a crossbow too for some rare occasions. Granted I had to quit not long after ToAU released for RL reasons, so I don't know much about what changed after that as I never saw WotG and beyond.

Besides any useful applications though, it was always a bit cathartic to run outside and punch low level mobs with my bare fists and not have to change to MNK to do it...

I like the fact that you don't have to lvl the weapons here. In ffxi it was fun for the first...100 lvls then it got boring then more of a chore to do and if you didn't do it you where pretty much screwed since you would shit for dam on easy preys in the higher lvl areas...
