    Forum outrage! An explaination?

I have been wondering something of late. Could all this forum outrage be coming form a particular group of players? Namely people who were either part of the 1.0 alpha/beta or people here from the beginning and knew why 1.0 failed.

This could be the reasons for such a vocal opposition to even the smallest of issues while the game is still in production? With how little the previous team listened to the testers and fanbase it would stand to reason that this is why people are so vocal. They are afraid of a repeat of 1.0's launch, they want to make sure they are listened to, all because they want this game to succeed.

I must admit my frustration with people gripes have been, up to this point, based on the assumption that these people are just looking for something to complain about cause they have no life. While there may be a few that fit that description, I want to say that I finally get your concern.

All I have to say now is this is a different team and they have proven that they are listening this time. They have proven this for the last 2 years through Letters from the Dev's, Dev tracking, and Players Polls. Rest assured they have read and passed along your concerns regardless if they have commented directly to you on it.

At this point, they have a vision and a goal that they are sticking with. While a few tweaks and changes might still come I doubt they are going to redesign things yet again. While there are a few features that are similar to other genres and some things not everyone will like, thats just life. You cant please everyone.

Comment on the things that concern you then let it go. SE pays people to read this stuff, have pity on them. I wouldnt doubt that after the 10th thread about "gay marriage" they stopped reading every single thing and some good ideas may have been lost amongst the bickering. Make your point, say your piece, then let it go. Hitting the "like" button on a post will be something they actually look for, the rest would be fluff.

I will end my lengthy rant with an apology. I apologize for thinking the worst of the motives for some of the frequent forum posters.

I call it the Vocal Minority Syndrome.

Wouldn't worry about it too much. Happens everywhere on the internet. A few people making loud noises that can't get what they want is all it is.

    There's a couple of reasons i think:
1)many people take in vision only what they have in sight, without consider any wider POV (like the ones who take the battle system in alpha as the final one, while it's missing a lot of parts)

2)tons of players come from FFXI, which has been their only MMO, and every thing don't remember that game is shit (funny enough, on FFXI forum there's biasing like here lol). But the sad news they refuse to understand, the times where a a game that slow could exist is forever lost. At least, until you're planning to releas a very niche game, with all the problems that bring

3)what you said. A lot of peple seen their feedback ignored, and now yell to be listened. While many times they should found a good reason to yell, and not shit like goobbue...

3)because they have hands to write

    4)nostalgia googles, even with 1.0 !!

    All IMHO

*gets out his reading glasses.* Time for wall of text read. Will edit in just a minute.

Yes, we do have a few individuals bitching about every little thing (grass etc.). What people are mostly afraid of is as yuki mentioned on is that we're not going to be heard and we'll end up with another SWTOR effect. Super hype, super flop. Personally I'm afraid of this game becoming a vanilla MMO with a splash of FF flavoring.

I've done a fair amount of replies, reviewing subjects that pop up here and there, but in reality every major point has been covered already. Every post is a repost of a repost. And since people in Alpha can't break NDA here, I'm sure the Alpha forums have similar complaints/topics. Or even issues we don't see here.

We just want the best possible game and come to a happy medium with the devs and the community. Something that will make money and be playable for us AND the dev team. At least that's what I want to see happen.

This is common in not only the MMO industry, but the gaming industry in general. Since the internet, each year it has been easier and easier to voice an opinion in, and it can be a good thing, or bad. You will always get the person who has such negative feelings towards something wanting the most amount of attention. He will throw red flags, he will put up flair, he will say words that will easily rile someone up to get his message across.

I wouldn't concern about people's reactions towards 2.0. I think it just looks more extreme due to the previous game not being a success, just giving people more to work with when being critical towards SE. I would just simply ignore them unless their complaint or criticism towards the game is legit. People nowadays like to complain about the silliest things (Like grass and back peddling.). I doubt SE takes them seriously and you shouldn't either.

Half the time, the person complaining doesn't know what he is talking about and just wants to rant just to rant.

When you complain or give criticism, please make it in the benefit of the core mechanics of the game improving, not simple knit picks like grass or jumping. The game you want won't be done 100% through your vision. There will be things you like, and some you don't. Please comment towards things that will help the game experience, not be turned around by simple personal taste.

Watch how far this post will go, feel like I am playing QWOP.

The Pareto Principle, meaning that 80% of the griping comes from 20% of the user-base. Yes, it's true that their intentions are ultimately good in that they want a good game but as Yukikaze said they fail to recognize a different perspective beyond their own.

I much prefer to have this type of thread. I managed to start another intelligent thread a little while ago about Where did Yoshi-P fail you. it had lots of well thought out posts and few one liner troll comments. Thank you.

It's a mix of people who are nostalgic about FFXI (and wanted an FFXI with updated graphics) and people who are WOW-phobic.

Yoshi-P said when he joined that his plan is to modernize FFXIV by looking at what made western MMOs successful, that's literally what he's done, and that's what these people are complaining about. A modern MMO that has a few things in common with WOW.

That said, some of his work still seems too caught up on the western systems or conventions themselves, rather than why they worked for their given games. Quest density, for example, has often been a good thing, but why?

Does a grindy-addictive clickfest actually suit an FF style... wait... haven't worked through that yet...

It's never a bad idea to view and learn from your competition. But the more one focuses on what has been done, the less instinctive freedom one has in developing the actual targets of the game. And those, be in vast quest networks and diverse zones rolled through with easy humor, or party and labor-intensive gameplay over a world that feels about as realistic as fantasy can get, etc, are what will really set the game apart.
