This rationalization of why people are complaining needs to stop honestly though. It all just strikes me as rather tacky.. like an excuse is being invented for why there is so much criticism on these forums.. criticism that to some is just plain old stupid. But guess what.. you aren't the only one with an opinion.. or the only person who wants this game to be great in their own way. A thread about jumping or something of that matter, about something trivial to you, doesn't make it less than any other post. I'm sorry to bare that news but it just doesn't...

There is absolutely no harm in anyone voicing there opinion about anything as long as there is some kind of reasoning behind it.. as long as it's constructive.

Everyone just wants the game to be great.. take a post for what it is. A person voicing their opinion on what they think is great or not so great with the game. Stop trying to lump them into some percentage or call them nostalgic because, to me, that's just a way of trying to devalue a post.
Its not so much the fact that there are complaints as its the content and way its been going about. I've said before i'm all for people voicing concern and providing constructive feedback. But when it's the 10th Thread about gay marriage or jump or any topic for that matter and its the same ideas being thrown around by the same people getting louder and louder, this tells me they dont think they are being heard. Possibly a byproduct of the previous team? I dont know.

It just feels like the sheer volume of posts will make their point heard when it instead gets lost in the flood of pointless posts. I'm even willing to concede that this thread is one of those useless threads but it comes in response to threads that have over 80 pages of posts that could be condensed down to maybe a dozen or so posts when you take out repeated info and personal attacks.

But its just my opinion. This has never in the history of the internet helped anyone see anything from another's point of view, all it does is give someone else the opportunity to speak their mind even louder. At least in my experience, although it is a bit of an exaggeration on my part, i will admit.

The problem with this type of thread is very simple. You're over thinking it..

This is just the way things are truthfully. In every forum that's easily accessible you are bound to see the things you've discussed. It's completely rational to see the same topics popping up for two main reasons.. for one threads tend to get lost in the fray. Half of the time the person starting a thread that's already been done is because they just haven't seen it.. secondly.. when you think about it.. if you had something you thought was extremely thought out and reasonable it's much easier to be heard when you create a new thread as opposed to being poster number #64 in one that's already been created.

It's all a part of life.. you're going to see these things just because of the way people are. I don't even know why people have problems with the same threads popping up.. if they aren't a hot topic issue or add anything of value they're going to get lost fast.. and if it's just a bunch of people posting one liners or links to a video, because they might think it's witty and cool, the moderators will take care of that if they see fit..

We aren't discussing Astrophysics.. we're discussing a game. And with that I've said what I had to say. Hopefully this thread will die out now because the general tone is of belittlement and superiority.

Despite the irony that I'm responding to this and making the thread last longer...

I have to agree this thread reeks of people being upset because people have opinions that differ from their own. Just because people tend to get a bit passionate or closed minded about a topic at hand does not utterly discount that persons right to post their opinion as many times as they want.

We are on a forum to discuss the game, we discuss the game in a forum not a academic setting where you say your peice and leave it at that. You are allowed to talk to individuals or make sweeping statements for others to respond at. I'm sure it's the same on the Alpha forums, (I'm sure some people think it must be sunshine and rainbows for some reason even when many people from the same community they decry are there as we speak.) People will speak their mind in the way they best know how.

It may not always be a giant thesis it may just be a persons blunt opinion on a subject. Does that give them any ground to stand on when challenged? Not really, but they were/are always allowed to have a opinion. Just because you have a different opinion doesn't make it invalidated.

Let's take a good look at what is being posted right now, Zumi has every right to assume anyone who disagrees with them is a FFXI purist. Does that make Zumi correct? Chances are no, all we can do is either tell them they are wrong (Pointless) or ignore them and continue with the discussion at hand. You are not obligated to read or even aknowledge Zumi's post, and Zumi would quickly either stop interjecting or continue to be ignored unless they found common ground with another person and they can start their own conversation.

No matter how terrible you think someones opinion on the forum is, it's never "Trash" or "Waste" of the forums because the people are using the forums for exactly what they were intended for, discussing the game. There is no set of rules (Asides from the general forum rules) to freeform discussion, and there shouldn't need to be. If your upset your "Intelligent" posts are being burried by "Unintelligent" threads it's a shame but that's how things go.

Should chaff "Repeated threads" be quickly locked and burried? of course, but as we lack the abillity to do so we have to leave that in the hands of the moderators. Many of my threads have been burried by people telling other people to stop speaking their mind it irks me in one sense and entertains me in another that the whole thread itself has been done before many times but is to the OP justified to bring to light a issue we all are allready aware of. It's a no-win battle people will and should continue to post however they see fit unless it breaks the forums user policy, it's not our job to police the forums it's our job to use them and discuss the future of the game in them.

If your topic proves popular enough you should have little issue with it falling from the front page while discussion is fresh, and relevant.

Just makes me wish threads could set their own moderators, who each have the ability to bookmark, organize, and mob up the thread. Just to be fair, things removed can go into a thread archive.
