Lately I've been reading more refreshing posts outside of the official forums than from within, with people taking the long view or comparing the development to games other than just WoW or FFXI. I find that some here either have rose-colored glasses or are jaded. That being said, the biggest complaints I'm reading is about the alpha invites (or lack thereof) and OPs post makes me think that these are people who alpha/beta tested 1.0 and haven't got one for 2.0 and are falling off their self-made pedestal.

I am going to add a lot of people do not like change, even if it's better. These are the people I most often have arguments with. As a computer Scientist I have to embrace change, if I don't I become less competitive in an ever changing environment.

I agree. Most people usually detest changes especially when it's working, even if it's horribly cumbersome. They've adapted to make the system work for them. When change hits, they are met with the sense of despair because now that system does not work for them.

Agreed. My vote goes to the vocal minority as I, myself was part of beta for 1.0 and am currently playing ffxi (like literally. I'm outside the maw for abyssea-la theine in another window.). I've always felt that the first 1.0 had a lot of potential. Sure it had a lot of GUI problems and bugs due to people shouting for the game to be shipped without another delay, but that doesn't mean the game concept was bad. But people thought that mislabeled GUI means it's a bug in a programming (which, like most CS people, you'll actually know what a bug is as opposed to what gamers feel it is.) or that the game itself is flawed. It tried to do something different from any other mmorpg out there and that scared people. It scared people who came from WoW because different and they can't ram through stuff like they can in other games. It scared the ffxi players because there's suddenly none of the jobs or skills they're accustom to. Is 2.0 a much more in depth game? Yes. Is 2.0 turning out to be a beautiful and well-thought-out game? Definitely. But 1.0 had a freedom in game play that didn't exist in it's later incarnations and, again, wasn't a bad concept. I really do hope they bring back all the original skills that were cut out in later 1.0 revisions (example: absorb spells, mass fear, etc. from thm). It would be nice to have the ability to make your own job/play style rather than have someone dictate that you are a drg or war or mnk.

What I personally think (my opinion) is that there are a group of people, the same one's (analogously, not literally) that talk too loud, always has to be better and know more than you and have better stuff. Those are the group of people that will shout the loudest because they want something. One part of it wants just ffxi with better graphics because they really can't imagine anything else, the others want a WoW that they can play that's not WoW. And when one group gets something, the other screams. So, in the end, we end up with a group of people that screams they want jump as that's standard in mmorpgs and that same group will scream when they implement it. Or vice versa, they that will scream for harder fights because they feel there's nothing to do due to them ramming through everything, and that same group screaming that fights are too hard and shouldn't require 2 full alliances (a la dynamis runs or god fights in ffxi back in the day?).
