Please stop complain about this annoying theme. You all speak about the alpha as it would be completely normal to get invited to it!
In an alpha test you invite only some peoples that meet some points. Maybe you got the same GFX card like 99999 others? So you could get sorted out so SE get the chance to test out other users with different GFX cards maybe?
This is an alpha NOT a beta. It is normal to NOT get invited to an alpha, and not to get invited to it!
Or do you always complain when you don't win the jackpot?
And beside that SE DON'T need to respond you in this thread since it is their product and they have the rights to invite whoever they want to.

Inactive accounts that meet the requirements doesn't meet the requirement of needing to be an active FFXIV account holder in order to even fill out an application.

For kicks I did it with one of my inactive accounts from 1.0 alpha and beta, was able to no problem. Beta is when he mentions active/legacy accounts he'll try to get in but well, we know the opposite will happen since beta is a good advertisement grounds and a state to try to win people over.

They know they'll get the small playerbase from 1.0 back easily, so it's not really them who they care about in the long run.

Complaining about complaints and all that...

It is normal to NOT get invited to an alpha, and not to get invited to it!

What is not normal is explicitly setting a requirement for application and then not honoring it.

That's the point of an application process with very specific requirements. Clearly, something was lost in the sorting processing.

Get all legacy members or try to get as many different hardware as possible to test?

With all due respect, it seems to me that you're grasping at straws, rather desperately too.

If you have "just too many applications", letting even more (all the inactives) in doesn't seem the smartest way to solve the problem.

The active community is very diverse. It doesn't make the slightest sense to argue that they wouldn't have been able to select exactly the same hardware/connection/geographical pool only between them.

Please, really, stop grasping at straws. It's unbecoming. Keeping selection limited to active accounts as clearly and explicitly stated would have "screwed" nothing.

And? Some people are passionate about being able to give their feedback on the early product.

Considering that they supported its creation a lot more than those that ditched FFXIV as soon as it required paying a fee (or even earlier), I would say there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.
