    To the OP:
If it makes you feel better 7 yrs on ffxi didn't get me a beta or alpha into this game when it came out. I was a bit upset when it seemed my friends in xi who logged on once every 6 months seemed to get invited and I didn't but what happened is I "played" this game and all those XI friends who tried the alpha and beta were so turned off by them they wouldn't give it a chance when it came out. So maybe, I was the lucky one.

    Second side note

I do feel its dumb to give betas to quit players vs actives if that's true. The majority of unactives I know not only didn't want to play anymore they wanted to play something else. F- their invites, they can stay where ever they ended up imo.
It's not dumb at all. In fact its good business.

You want to attract people that either do not play or people that used to play because you know, no matter how much they rage, the active players are still going to play and forget all about their anger once they get started. If you loose a couple, well you loose a couple because that is inevitable but the amount of players you gain from targeting the non-active audience is going to be larger creating more NEW subscriptions.

Valid point I agree with yes, but I still don't like it. It's kinda like school all over where your friend just pushed you in the mud trying to impress some other kid to hang out with him instead, haha.

Also they aren't technically new subscriptions The op is talking about unactive XIV players . They would be old players who are just as likely to jump off the bandwagon again 3 months down the road. Granted some left for lack of content but I would rather please and keep the people who log on everyday then add 3 people in his place who will only play 2-3 months.

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~

It seems completely pointless to do that.

But I did the same lol.

Maybe the selection of inactive accounts came from a different process than the form we filled out saying active accounts only. Maybe SE has invited people who have never played FFXIV ever. SE has the freedom to grant access to whomever it chooses. One of those was to invite us to fill out that alpha form.

We know SE has already invited people to the beta, and just for coming to see their presentation at a German games convention earlier this year. A nonsensical reaction would be "How fair is that?" A more sensible reaction would be: Congrats to those people, and how gracious of SE. (IMHO of course.)

It makes me sad that a lot of people view their not being selected as if SE specifically looked at them and decided they were undeserving. Just as with Gamescom, SE didn't decide that everyone outside that room was bad, or not good enough, etc. It's just one of those random things.

    /thumbs up from me!
As far as we know Se might give legacy members a earlier start date, similar to Gw2 or Tera giving pre ordered accounts a week start.

Like I said before I never made XIV's A/B phase but the majority of my friends who did, didn't want to play after the beta/alpha. It's not always a bad thing, not being chosen.

I'm still utterly baffled by this rabid desire to get into such a limited phase of the game. Is everyone really so excited about picking one of two character models and submitting bug reports that they foam at the mouth and write angry letters?

May want to know something about business before stating that something is good or bad business.

If someone ditched an incomplete game, you don't invite him to experience a massively incomplete incarnation of a new game.

Inviting inactive accounts to an early alpha testing doesn't make the slightest sense, as the advertising power of the current alpha is very limited, and is most likely to actually have the opposite effect on people used to complete games. That kind of accounts is suitable to be invited during a late beta, when most elements are already in place.

This, of course, without mentioning the fact that explicitly stating a rule and then not honoring it is a rather large marketing blunder.

I completely agree, who would be better to give feedback than one who has completed ffxiv on many different levels. Look at myself for example, I leveled EVERYTHING. I would certainly have a lot of feedback to offer about 2.0, and I would happily do it, because I want the game to succeed.
