I'm not a computer person and have never downloaded a game that did come from a disk. I was wondering if we have to uninstall the old game first? I have heard some people have already uninstalled the game but haven't done it yet. I know the new game is pretty much new but I keep thinking I need the old one?

They're two different clients which means they both can exist on the same system, there's just no reason to keep the old game installed unless you want to log in while it's back up for some reason.

For the people that are upgrading from 1.0, the answer is... we don't know yet. I would hold on to your disk just in case; if they botch the release and don't have a standalone, disk-independent download, you'll have to use your 1.0 disk or buy a new copy.

That probably won't happen since there were users who bought the download version of the game from SE...

That has nothing to do with current owners of 1.0. It's a business move by SE because stocking two versions of FFXIV on shelves, one of which is completely worthless and unplayable, will damage their business.

As a FFXIV 1.0 owner, you have nothing to gain from tossing out your 1.0 disc until you're sure you're all set with 2.0, unless you don't want to get into 2.0 or want to save a few millimeters of desk space.
