How do I claim my FFXIII bonus item?

I bought FFXIII when it came out and registered the FFXIV bonus item code on my S-E members account right away. I did not get 14 until yesterday because I was disappointed it at release. I am wondering how I receive the bonus item "Asuran Armguards".

When I made my character I had the Goggles waiting in my inventory. Do I have to do something with my account information to get the Armguards or is there a NPC I need to talk with? Or, was the item only available for a limited time and I can no longer get it?

OK, so I found this page which gave me a code I I had to enter on the FFXIV account site. I entered it and it looked like the code was accepted however, when I loged into the game I still did not have the Armguards in my inventory.

Bonus items are only added to the inventory of a newly created character. If you created the character before you registered the Asuran Armguards code, then the character will not have them. To receive them you must create a new character.
