MMO Complaint: Large Enemies up in my grill.

Yah I just wanted to say that I absolutely hate hate hate, when you're fighting a large enemy or a boss, you're practically inside them...

Not only that but when you hit them the hitting animation seems to be in the absolute middle. This isn't just FFXI and FFXIV it's pretty much all mmorpgs that I can think of right now.

Example pic the first one I saw on google image search that sorta showed what I was talking about.

Many times the monsters attack animations seem like they're trying to hit 5 feet behind your character, space them out a little bit, make the hit animations hit their flanks / back / front not in the absolute middle. If anything make it so you can't run straight through a boss, give them a meaty solid feel to them not some hollow thing...

I dunno just me maybe XD

It's called a hitbox and it's something that won't ever change lol. With XIV they actually tried to fix it, but as usual the community bitched about not being able to run through enemies (ironic huh?) so they removed collision detection.

Developers can only do so much to try to fix it but as long as big entities exist there will always be weird problems like this, since they can make the hitbox universal like some enemies in XI (Hydra for example) but the main hitbox will always be in the center.

As for the Amphiptere screenshot look at how he's also clipped into the ground, which changes his stance which makes them get even more in your face or not lol. But as said, as long as there's large enemies, always expect there to be graphical hangups like this, especially if people will continue to complain about collision detection >.>

I don't like to stand hitting the knees of a huge boss/mob/monster/dragon/whatever for 20 mins until it dies, but the only way I think that could be solved is taking ideas maybe from Dragon's Dogma, Monster Hunter or even God of War... I don't know how well those would work on a MMO though...

Still I liked how in the initial release the hitboxes were more or less coincidental with the monster 3d model, I hope that comes back.

Collision detection wont solve that problem we had this problem in XIV when Great Buffalo first came out..... They just need to work on the hit boxes better that's all.
