Aside from regular advertising imo it's just word of mouth that really spreads.. the word.

So what can they do? Hope their game appeals to a large amount of people. It's really just down to that I think. People over advertisement. And a trial! Definitely a trial.

The hate comes from fails that don't think a game can ever redeem itself after a bad launch. And that's just ignorance. Doesn't matter. If the game is good opinions will change. Trial is important though otherwise those people will probably never ever buy it. They're far more likely to download a free demo.
