I believe it has something to do with Japanese players custom where they like to remain unannoymous, there was one drama back then in my JP LS, we usually use teamspeak to communicate and there was at least 4 females that speaks regularly.

One day, a new NA guy that joined the LS decided to stream his FFXIV without asking, so everything was leaked out, the players name, ingame chat, LS chat, their voices, and they gets so outraged.

On my point of view, it seems to be overreaction but i respect their choices. So this might be one of the consideration why you don't see JP multiplayer game supporting voice chat ingame.

I don't think it is a bad idea. If you don't want to use it....don't. JP players can remain anonymous. I rather play with people I can talk to so I can get the information faster and most people use Vent / Mumble etc because the option is not there to begin with.

Step 1: In-game web browser (probably Firefox-based), even if it would officially be limited to accessing The Lodestone (without formatting/etc errors).
Step 2: Make a version of The Lodestone that's compatible with PS3 specifications/controls.
Step 3: Square-Enix hosted voice client which is accessible through The Lodestone's linkshell features.
    Step 4: ???
    Step 5: Profit.

Edit: misread. But yeah it isn't about being technically possible, it's about not officially condoning it for other reasons.

    Few options/ideas

1.) A laptop/nearby computer can function for any voice chat medium, and we know this will be a guaranteed option now and later.
2.) If they implement a voice chat into 2.0 given the option to use it or not in various party/raid scenarios.
3.) If there is a way to run/create/implement certain voice apps in the background on a PS3 (Mumble for PS3 perhaps).

#2 and #3 both would offer the convenience of having everything all in one place and the ability to use the PS3 headset hardware, though at the moment only #1 is a guarantee.

Also anecdotal evidence that I've heard(from a few years ago admittedly) has pointed out that the voice chatting on the PS3 isn't that great and people don't really use it as much.

And seriously dude, quit whining about people disagreeing with you. It isn't making your position any more attractive.
I will hereby whine about the whining about the whining. The prior-mentioned whining seems more significant and base-less than the latter.

Honestly, I can see why SE wouldn't have surrounding speech, (voices automatically used surrounding the character) but I don't see why (if their response was actually referring to this) there wouldn't at least be party or linkshell (or linkshell subgroup [social party]) speech. Players are already categorized by their copy versions, be it JP or NA or EU, etc. I don't see why the same concept can't be applied to listening filters. If anything, that's a pretty small part of the customization one would want in a MMORPG, and if all those items of customization could be made, I'd honestly like to see a PC copy too... preferably one integratable with third-party streams...

I wouldn't mind if they implement voice chat as long as I'm not forced to use it. I have more bad experiences with voice chat than good ones.

well i dont think it will work out well on the ps3. its funny how theres a lack of ffxi being talked about now thats going off topic. i doubt SE will create or rent a voice client server so players from other consoles or pc's can chat. I dont know if any game has done that. vent or any other voice cilent will work just as fine. of course i cannot talk for everyone else but my nyc apartment has wifi if i was playing on ps3 i will be greatful if ventrillo brings out a moble app who wouldent ?. sence i have laptops and a pc, im not going that route anyway.

i cant use games like dc universe because its a free to play mmo that charges you for voice chat. thats stupid on the higest level
