Also anecdotal evidence that I've heard(from a few years ago admittedly) has pointed out that the voice chatting on the PS3 isn't that great and people don't really use it as much.

And seriously dude, quit whining about people disagreeing with you. It isn't making your position any more attractive.
I will hereby whine about the whining about the whining. The prior-mentioned whining seems more significant and base-less than the latter.

Honestly, I can see why SE wouldn't have surrounding speech, (voices automatically used surrounding the character) but I don't see why (if their response was actually referring to this) there wouldn't at least be party or linkshell (or linkshell subgroup [social party]) speech. Players are already categorized by their copy versions, be it JP or NA or EU, etc. I don't see why the same concept can't be applied to listening filters. If anything, that's a pretty small part of the customization one would want in a MMORPG, and if all those items of customization could be made, I'd honestly like to see a PC copy too... preferably one integratable with third-party streams...

I wouldn't mind if they implement voice chat as long as I'm not forced to use it. I have more bad experiences with voice chat than good ones.

    1. Dark Souls and Demon Souls don't have voice chat, and they have amazing (and unique) multiplayer. It can't really be called a standard when you have to buy an extra peripheral to use it.
    2. Wifi.

Otherwise, guess who's not using voice chat?

Seriously, my point still stands. Even if it were implemented, barely anyone would use it simply because there is already a better alternative in place. They don't even NEED voice chat. I know several of people who participate in endgame events without mics.

This thread shows why a lot of console players hate pc players.

The only console MMO that I played in which you could use in-game voice-chat was Phantasy Star Universe on Xbox360 and it was really chaotic. We usually only played through the "Party Chat" which is a great feature but, unfortunately, it's not n PS3, you couldn't talk to PC players anyway and you needed to have all people in your "Friendlist" to invite them in the Party Chat.

Another reason for not including it in the game is that there is few MMORPGs with that feature. I guess that it must be hard to control the in-out of partys of 1000 players at the same time.

So, for all those reasons, I doubt your wish will become true. Mumble, Vent, TeamSpeak, Skype and a few others are the third-party voice chat software you are looking for. Also, if you plan on getting FFXIV on PS3, I suggest buying a USB keyboard if you don't already have one. It is necessary (even if voice-chat would be incorporated in the game)

Seriously. Or they would probably be playing on it.

Believe it or not, not everyone has a pc/laptop just sitting next to their ps3 ready to connect a headset to it.
Don't need the PC or laptop right next to the PS3, most ps3 players have a bluetooth headset, get a cheap bluetooth adapter to connect the headset to and your done (depending on the range) or what about smartphones, there are smartphone clients for Mumble, Vent and teamspeak, which just about covers them.

This will cover 99.9% of people that will be playing FFXIV including the PS3 players.
