Merlwyb, Kan-E, Raubahn, Cid: Dead or Alive?

Personally I'm pretty sure the devs will save at least Cid. He's a rather iconic characters of the FF series, so I doubt ARR won't have him.

I'm a bit more worried about the leaders of the Grand Companies, as personally I really liked them all.

Come on Yoshi-P. Drop us a hint?

I think the GC leaders were confirmed as alive. Cid is too important to die.

I missed it too but I've seen it brought up several times before. I'll do some digging around and see if I can find the source.

As for the Circle..I'm just going to leave it as Yosh-P is very cryptic about it.. >_>

Unless it flew past too quick for you to see, all of Eorzea was ravaged, it's how they're explaining the world change so they could have died, could have lived, no one really knows until beta maybe when they start adding in actual content.

Actually we already saw that at least Gridania has been left pretty much untouched by the disaster, as the new Grid is very similar to the old one in the movies they shown.

In the trailer itself the three city states seem to be suffering very little damage, as the attacks of Bahamut hit all around them, but not much inside them, and Yda, Papalymo, Y'shtola, and Tancred were all in the places where you meet them during Living on a Prayer, inside the cities. Considering their location, I would say it would make very little sense for them to die, especially compared to the GC leaders that were a lot more in harm's way.

I think they are alive as Yoshi said in a degeki interview for ARR that the Limsan admiral is female (it was something about music) and I just hope that he refers to our current female admiral.

On the other hand those leaders had really nice concepts and I think they were quite some characters (plus they were sort of famous) so why replacing promising character concepts whose potentials could live up greatly in ARR?
I think those chars have potential to be really good NPCs (and as an exception I'm not only talking about Merlwyb but about all of them. Yes, I like the others, too, indeed. =P )

(Aaaand...I possibly did get something like a hint at a game convention that if we had a favourite character they might most likely be in ARR. No idea if that counts for Loui though...... :/ Maybe Loui's spirit will guide us or something. That would be pretty cool if he'd appear in our dreams or visions to lead us towards our heroic fate.)

It's definitely the only genre in which such an event is extremely commonplace, especially when talking about several characters. I'm glad I helped you realize that.

Well we're not exactly talking about a run-of-the-mill fantasy occurrence here though, are we? It's the end of an age, and the end of a game, in the form of a widespread destructive apocalypse that no one can stop. The fantasy genre isn't exactly one to avoid character deaths in major moments like this, so I wouldn't write it off as an impossibility.

That being said, I don't believe it's likely that the GC leaders or the Circle of Knowing members have perished, because fantasy like this is more likely to spend moments with a character when they perish to create emotional impact, as was done with Louisoix.
