#3 is not really an option if it is not efficient, which is potentially the problem. Having the option to do something but it being completely pointless is not really an option at all. Just like in WoW you can level up only killing mobs never questing or running a dungeon... but it would be stupid.

The devs need to remember people raged in 1.0 about there being no group based xping. And I do not think dungeon raiding and random battles in the field with insta-pugs will cut it.

This is the only major issue I see from my limited knowledge of Alpha, still waiting for my invite to actually test it out myself. Group based XP outside questing and dungeons should still be > Solo quest XP. I know they are making the game sorta like WoW but the forced Solo questing and party only in instance mentality is the BIGGEST NEGATIVE WOW HAS.

SE needs to ballance every method. In the end group XP must be good enough people prefer it over solo or solo will be the prefered choice. Solo takes 1 person, group takes 2+ if solo = group everyone will just solo.

    1) Group based xp chaining on hardermobs in the world should give really good xp.
    2) Solo questing should progress you at a decent rate.
    3) Fate should progress you at a decent rate
    4) Dungeons should progres at a decent rate.

Have to remember there are a Lot and I mean a LOT of people who hate questing.

You don't have to quest solo. That's like saying the leves where solo only, when you could still do them as a party and get good EXP. Just because you did them solo didn't mean they were forced solo.

Also, hi noc. I miss you.
I didnt know GW2 forced you to do questing. If anything GW2 is probably the less painful levelling system i have ever experienced, i hit 80 without noticing while exploring the world.

In GW2 you can level 1-80 entirely doing WvW (World vs World, big scale rape enemies taking castle siege)
you can also level 1-80 levelling up crafts.
you can also level 30-80 entirely from dungeons (One dungeons done nets you 80% of your current level exp bar)
you can also quest of course.
alternatively, you can stand in one area doing dynamic events that chains alot like FATE-like system.

I do not care what any developer tells you about there game or how much make-up they put on the process.
Why won't you let me gather a party to quest, Noctis? You make me sad

I want the option to do all 3...story driven quest/missions...trash quest...and mob grinding(exp party grind ala XI)...that way I can pick and choose how I want to lvl.

The problem with that is balancing, quest mob's exp would have to be nerfed, or the questing would be far better with mob exp and quest rewards, if the quests didn't reward exp then you are just grinding.

Here's an example of what I mean, kill a mob for 200 exp, then another and another. There's 600 exp.

Now go to a kill 3 slugs quest for example, you kill the three slugs for 200 exp, then turn the quest in for 500 exp, that's 1100 exp, almost double for what could be a similar amount of time.

I just hate questing with the same kill X mechanic over and over. Get some gameplay variety in there.

Why do people want to set up camp somewhere and grind the same monsters for hours on end? Why is this a thing? And why do people want this to be the best/fastest way to level up, as opposed to varied content that will feed you lore and make you explore new areas? What the f**k?

Not even SE cared for the dialog when they showed off the video. Quest grinding is the exact same. It's there for grinding and making you level up. If every MMO "fed you lore with quest chaining" why is it that most people don't give a shit for the dialog it displays..? I know someone will say: "It was to save time"...yet plenty of other companies had no problem letting dialog in quests flow naturally like you're reading it.

When you're on a rail you're not going to be exploring, you're going to be led to the exact point of the quest and back.
