Since starting classes have been announced to be nation locked, 1.0 players with all 50s would need 1 new job per nation to be able to do the lowbie content properly for any choice of nation.

Actually, it's been confirmed that 1.0 players will not, in fact, start as part of ANY of the nations and have their own starting point.

I posted this ages ago in another thread but it seems like no one is mentioning chemist. This would also be a great addition to the current roster.

Chemist would give us another healer, just not a mage type. Chemists also use guns.

They could use potions and such as consumables. Maybe have an ability to throw a potion high over a party and shoot it, shattering the glass and making the potion aoe. Traits to make them more effective. Theres alot se could do with chemist in ffxiv. Its sad that such a great and useful job in fft hasnt been used since.

Now... interestingly you can see Bard and Archer were originally different classes... or so it leaves us to believe.
But, as always take anything pre 2.0 with a grain of salt as it may have changed concept more then once ^^

I was always intrigued by that chart. They obviously aren't sticking to it now, but it's cool to see the ideas that the 1.0 team had back then.

If they had stuck with the classes only, the abilities might be a nightmare to balance. I don't think the job system was ever part of the original plan -- at least from what Yoshi-P said about the 1.0 team trying to be as different as possible from FFXI.

Makes you wonder why they chose the Vana'diel races if they were trying to make something so different...

XI had their MMO fanbase, so they were trying to migrate those folks over to this shiny new theme park they're building. Unfortunately, it was all of the original's worst points and then some, and the bad outweighed the good. The result: the realm gets reborn in 2.0 to give it a clean slate and an entirely new outlook. I'm expecting it to end up being only superficially similar to XI in 2.0.

Flayer = Blue Mage? Xi ppl kno what I'm talking about.

If the Blu in ARR (note: a future expansion) possessed any of the Spell potential of the flayer you fight in FFXI, it would be the Job of Most Pwn in all the realm.

But, alas, nerf and terf would be rampant, from patch to patch; and all EG battles would have alliances with at LEAST one full 8-man hit squad of Blus (damn I'd love to see that in FFXIV's gfx engine...)
