Also, to be fair, on armor such as the Colisseum sets (both the whorrior and whoremage sets) had a ridiculously low defense stat, so in essence, the appearance does match the defense, in the sense that you should be getting hit like a truck while wearing that. It may have stats, but of course it does; it's super sexy.

    Pirate!

Why not? Thief > Pirate so it makes sense.

So new gear types are on the rise the bahamut gear concepts are alien compared to 1.0 item and with that in mind there are some clothing trends, weapon designs, and even integrated tech that would ergonomically flow well into 14. That is why I am very selective of the concept arts I post up as I am trying to to portray pieces of ideas not the whole embodiment. Lulu Concept for instance has this gothic sinister look that portrays the black magic vibe but also a very serious and adult which is personified by her actions and speech but her costume does not take away from it. My point in using the design is because while its not a slinky dress or a bra and thong it will still appease the fan service some gear is built around.
OK. Eorza is not FFX, or XIII, or XI, but Final Fantasy is still Final Fantasy. FFXIV-ARR needs to reflect the whole tradition - not just make up it's own thing. ARR needs Riku's magic armor. Bikinis certainly can be loaded with magic defense. Appearance in FF has never been mundane. There has always been heavy steel armor right out of the middle ages because that was the concept of a dragon fighter in FFI. But as soon as cutscenes were added, FF became much more fantastic with islands suspended in the sky and minimun sexy clothing because it was FANTASY!!!

I really like the FFXIII clothing, but in general (like Lightning's clothing in FFXIII and Serah/Noel's clothing in FFXIII-2) they look a bit too futuristic for FFXIV in my honest opinion. That being said, the outfit Jihl Nabaat and Yaag Rosch are wearing would actually fit the FFXIV style quite nicely!

I would definately like to have/wear that in FFXIV! Maybe something for a Fencer/Soldier type of class in the future? (^_^ )

I agree that Final Fantasy has always supported a restrained style. However, we already have l'cie and aeons in-the nude. So even sticking to historic FF costumes there is a wide range costumes that were hardly anything. FF never resorted to nothing but sparkle, and, some of the favorite designs were based on Japanese costumes. The formal school-girl look so popular in anime is often seen in FF.

(Reality is obviously violated in ridiculous oversized weapons, which are typical of FF.)

SE has designed so many great costumes that they should pull the best into ARR. And just because some people have prejudices should not affect their decisions.

I find it funny how every single picture here has been of females and that 80% of them are in skimpy clothing. But honestly, I don't think many of these would fit well with XIV. Most of them are either modern in appearance or are over loaded with ridiculous accessories and pointless trinkets.

I actually enjoyed 1.0's armor, it was probably one of the very, very few things they did well from the beginning. It was actually believable in appearance and not too over-the-top.

So Pirates didn't fit Final Fantasy? The first game had it, XII had a lot of them (Vaan says hi), and I am sure XIV does have pirates.

It's better to look at FFI - FFVI, FFIX, FFT, FFXI, and FFXII for inspiration for this game.
ARR is a high-tech world! Where else do you get teleportation, energy beam weapons, levitation, genetics engineering, etc. As I see it, having played all the Finall Fantasy games through to the end, the worlds of Final Fantasy are more high-tech than actual magic. We study and learn magic spells, but the teachers always give us technical explanations based on energy flows and balancing - not usually involving summoning beings to grant us powers. Instead, if you want to build a device that uses these energies, you call for engineers and scientists.... not shamen and witches. I always pictured some mysterious high-tech machinery underground or on a distant continent generating the energy fields we use.

Pirates are one of the few suggestions that would work with loose clothing as long as they didn't turn it into "bikini with a tricorne and a gun ^_~ <3" crap.

Fine, I am a guy and I do not want to make my character look like a slut. Otherwise, that's your opinion.
