I funnily enough have some examples at hand:

Thought so. This is somewhat realistic in that you really can not make out fine details with the human eye at certain distances but this also saves GPU power by not fully rendering everything in Fine Detail within Five miles. If the game always rendered everything in fine detail, well....the minimum settings would sky rocket. O_oI funnily enough have some examples at hand:

Oh, and I have never seen it quite as blurry and rough as those screenshots. So either this points to a config issue or a card issue...

Did you expect something witty?
But still most games seem to pull it off without being hugely distracting. XIV fails horribly at this.
I think this is why that next gen engine designer was brought in to work on the systems. They are probably working on streamlining everything and tightening up the graphics.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
I hope so or i'm going to start making petitions to put walls all around any open space in limsa so i dont have to see those ugly ass cliffs.
Phenom X4 965 3.4Ghz (stock, activity over all 4 cores) Saphire 5770, 4 Gig DDr3 1333Ghz (optimized for Phenom X4)
30% Ram Usage, 30% CPU Usage(@40C), 80% GPU Usage(@60C) I have a 20$ case with a single 240mm fan in the back. Ambient Temperature right now is 20C, All setttings on High, EXCEPT Shadows on Standard, NO AMBIENT OCCLUSION, NO DEPTH OF FIELD. Consistent 50-60FPS
I had a 6970 for a bit and it ran @ 80C with fans speed at 10% under 30% Load. (it likes to run hot/optimal temperature) Alot does depend on your Hardware. Some like to run hot. Just like an engine has optimal operating temperature.
Can't really compare WOW's cartoony PS2ish graphics to FFXIV
The reason for the 1.5Gig memory storage is for how much information about your surrounding area is stored in memory. The more you run around and people run past you, the more is stored. That way it'll load faster when you pass by again. I think they should add the option to raise the memory storage. I'm only using like 1.2G out of my 4G to play this game.
There is still room for optimization in the code for FFXIV. Doesn't seem as extreme as somepeople make it out to be. But I for one would like to see better FPS for people with lower powered RIGS. 20-30 is playable but it'd be nicer for them to have a constant 30FPS.
Main Issues should be Dual GPU optimization. Crossfire/SLI optimization. Memory Optimization.
But as for this game destroying systems due to overwork. That's a bit exagerated.

1) You must have bad eye-sight because it is ANYTHING in front of you it is just most noticeable on LLs cliffs/buildings etc. Unless you are practically blind you can NOT miss it and that is the reason it is an issue.
2) You need to watch task manager more.
3) Go play some other games, read a few tech sites then get back to me about how the only gpu optimisation that should be done is for the 2% of people that use dual gpus.
