While I am only somewhat above the min system requirements, I'll add my voice to this thread in agreement. I can also hear my vid card straining when XIV is being run, not to mention just more sound from the PC when the game is running.
Again, blame nature or blame your set-up. Since almost nothing runs at 85C with proper cooling at default levels. O_o Even if they did code it optimally you would still be limited by Ambient temps.Because I don't have my System OC, these temperatures are default temps on an Air cooled system. I have no options but to do that if I want to play this summer, and I am sorry that is unacceptable, Stop defending SE for a poorly coded client when 30 ppl have told you this is an issue.
Duelle, you are probably hearing your hard drive. Since it is accessed so much....

Then please explain to me while idle my video card sits at a nice cool 32C, I open Starcraft 2 and play its at 54C. Now I open XIV it instantly goes to 55C, when I'm logged into XIV the card is at 80-85C and in town has even jumped as high as 92C. Little background for you I am a certified hardware tech and I can assure you my system is very nicely setup, Zalman CPU cooler, 470 GTX, 3x 240MM fans internally giving good airflow, with 3x 120MM fans up top to properly pull air out of the case.
According to MSi Afterburner right now
99% GPU Usage
88C Temp fan running at 79%
Fan running at 4k RPM on my GPU
All I am running is Vent and Pidgin IM
This is not a system build issue it is a coding issue within FFXIV.
I have a HIS 5870 and the fan never roars past 50% on auto....mainly because I have proper ways to evacuate the air so it barely peaks at 73C. >_> So it sounds more like a coolnig issue...probably turbulence. That or they need to retitle it "Nvidia, the way it's meant to burn."Then please explain to me while idle my video card sits at a nice cool 32C, I open Starcraft 2 and play its at 54C. Nvidia always runs hotter then ATi that's just the way it is, I always assume 3-4C is environment based, Nvidia runs 7-10C hotter then ATI always as the threshold is 110C so basically my GPU is running similar to yours, but once again that makes it a Client issue.I have a HIS 5870 and the fan never roars past 50% on auto....mainly because I have proper ways to evacuate the air so it barely peaks at 73C. >_> So it sounds more like a coolnig issue...probably turbulence. How is it a client issue? Do you know how often the frame buffer is accessed in an MMO? Something or other is constantly being loaded to and from memory and textures are constantly being drawn...Further modified by high AA and high level drawing options.
Few other games need to tax a GPU as much. Except Crysis...but that's far more poorly optimised than FFXIV. >_>

No I have no idea how the framebuffer is being accessed in this particular MMO. But that also depends once again on how SE coded the game. The constant load on the system would most likely be Player Characters as that is the one constant that is always changing which the system cannot accommodate automatically for.How is it a client issue? But once again that still does not account for a 20C temp discrepancy between Starcraft II, Civ 5, and other games which came out roughly about the same time.
You can't really compare games based on release dates. No I have no idea how the framebuffer is being accessed in this particular MMO. But that also depends once again on how SE coded the game. I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Well, seeing as the average human eye won't notice a significant difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS... there shouldn't be a problem. This isn't a Fighting game or a Shooter.
That being said, it could probably be optimized a bit better. But they're probably waiting until they've fixed other things before working on that.
