The problem is that the system requirements for running FFXIV smoothly are ridiculous. Most of us already compensated for that by dishing out hundreds of dollars extra to upgrade our PC's, but that's just the problem. FFXIV loses a lot of player base because of the system requirements and inherent FPS lag problems.

Poor optimization and technical problems galore. The rate of application crashes for this game is tremendous, and wide-ranging. A majority of people experience them all of the time.

What FPS problem? And the definition of "Smooth" is rather subjective. You also do not need "Hundreds of DOllars" to play FFXIV. I also never experience random game crashes anymore, unless I turn AA to 8x but that is mostly because I hit the VRAM limit. All most people need is to a shell out for a new Graphics card as any Desktop CPU in the last five years should be able to run it

SE said that a 460 is the RECCOMENDED settings, not OPTIMAL. With a 460 you can play at average settings without being impeded.

Because most PC games are Console ports....and single player with a set amount of assets.

Does that matter? All that means is SE is saying, want the game to look pretty, have a good rig. This game is playable on complete pieces of crap. I run it on my laptop which is a hair under minimum specifications.

    1.83Ghz Core 2 Duo
    NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS
    3GB RAM

The minimum specifications are indeed just as important as the recommended specifications. And those are also one of the highest of games on the market.

The GTX 460 released less than 2 years ago. So FFXIV was developed in such a way that someone with a PC over 2 years old wouldn't be able to run the game smoothly at default settings. And that is a problem when you're trying to establish a strong player base.

    :Edit:

Actually, since FFXIV was released in September, anyone with a graphics card over 1 year old wouldn't meet recommended requirements. Recommended requirements equating to smooth gameplay at default settings.
