[Dev] Overtaxation of PC Hardware

My GPU never goes above 80C and I run the game at 8x AA, and High settings... no ambient/depth of field of course...

My GPU Usage % rarely goes above 60% even in crowded areas...
My CPU used to run about 30-40% usage, but since last couple patches, I rarely go above 20% usage now (I7-980x @4ghz)

I use a single ATI 5970HD running in window mode at 1600x900 resolution. I can run full screen 1920x1200 at same settings with same usage %, but I hit my damn windows key so often it crashes the client, and that sucks so I must play in windowed mode.

I agree with the poster about CPU temps.. and your cards should be made to run at 100%, granted SE needs to optimize this game ALOT, as it should not be using this much GPU/CPU

Just be patient, they make improvements all the time, and make sure you get the latest video drivers constantly, they always make improvements too.

Can't it be the other way around also that the video cards are not made for the new graphics engine they used on this game? or if its is new engine? Thinking it may not be totally their fault that the video cards are not made for this game? I think it goes both ways. Video card needs to have drivers made for the game and the game needs to be made for the Video Card. Reason alot of gaming companies are trying to get away from PC gaming? Is it all based on sponsership to a game, reason the package of the video card you bought in the back advertised works best with (selected video games here) on the back of the box? New hardware and new software takes alot of time to twink out the programing to work good in both cases. I say give it time. One or two years lol.

Works best with or similar stuff related to GPUs is just marketing bollocks, also no matter what fanboys tell you, ATI and nVidia are equals, they may get ahead of each other once in a while but they always average in the end (has been like that for years). Same goes for driver stability and what not.

Games don't need particular drivers, that's what directx is there for, overall ATI and nVidia do try to optimize their drivers for the biggest games, because that sells cards. But the level of optimization 14 needs is way beyond what can be done in a driver.

Having taken an image synthesis lecture this semester, I've been following it with a mix of amazement and anger. Amazement at how good something can look like, how easy it is to implement and anger at how little resources it is taking on a 8600m GT to render compared to FFXIV ...

Best example program they showed had a pretty big landscape, it's texture was computed in realtime and supported proper level of detail, not the crippled SE one. It didn't make the 8600m GT even flinch and it looked as good if not better than FFXIV!

I am aware that many different things combined put much more load on the GPU and that example had no trees etc, but it was still much more optimized than what we see here.

Ya... don't try and run this game with Windows Vista lol, Vista in itself is a memory hog. go with Win 7.

Though I agree win7 is the way to go, this myth never dies, doesn't it... ah well, I should really stop caring.

Here on a gtx 460 SE never over 63 C° with all high and 1920x1080P and depth of field+phi

And processor (I7 2600k 3.8 ghz) never reach 53 C°

With older VGA driver sometimes I reach 75 C°

Well some GTX 460 came with a custom cooler, MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, it is only the ones that came with a stock cooler that seem to have an issue.

On the first 90 Degree day of the season My GPU temp when playing XIV went from 50C to 62C. Yeah not good, SE really does need to fix this crap fast lol. I can only imagine if I still had my stock cooler how crappy it would have been.
