Nvidia always runs hotter then ATi that's just the way it is, I always assume 3-4C is environment based, Nvidia runs 7-10C hotter then ATI always as the threshold is 110C so basically my GPU is running similar to yours, but once again that makes it a Client issue.I have a HIS 5870 and the fan never roars past 50% on auto....mainly because I have proper ways to evacuate the air so it barely peaks at 73C. >_> So it sounds more like a coolnig issue...probably turbulence. That or they need to retitle it "Nvidia, the way it's meant to burn."
How is it a client issue? Do you know how often the frame buffer is accessed in an MMO? Something or other is constantly being loaded to and from memory and textures are constantly being drawn...Further modified by high AA and high level drawing options.
Few other games need to tax a GPU as much. Except Crysis...but that's far more poorly optimised than FFXIV. >_>

Did you expect something witty?
No I have no idea how the framebuffer is being accessed in this particular MMO. But that also depends once again on how SE coded the game. The constant load on the system would most likely be Player Characters as that is the one constant that is always changing which the system cannot accommodate automatically for.How is it a client issue? But once again that still does not account for a 20C temp discrepancy between Starcraft II, Civ 5, and other games which came out roughly about the same time.
Kudos to Xenophage Kaiser of Mysidia for this info:
If you guys are worried about your GPUs and you have an Nvidia card, you should check Nvidia's site for the new drivers released not too long ago, I'm currently downloading one for my GTX 260M, and it's specs listed it as improving Final Fantasy XI performance, (I'm guessing it was a typo since xi has been out forever) I also understand that they can improve framerate, while reducing core heat.
I don't think it is, as the last several nVidia drivers have had odd issues with FFXI.(I'm guessing it was a typo since xi has been out forever)
Your system has major cooling issues if you need to run an air conditioner for the sake of keeping the PC cool at any time, much less 24/7. Something tells me your PC is running hotter than it should even when you're not playing games.Because I don't have my System OC, these temperatures are default temps on an Air cooled system. I have no options but to do that if I want to play this summer, and I am sorry that is unacceptable, Stop defending SE for a poorly coded client when 30 ppl have told you this is an issue.

Uh by air cooled he means fans, not an air conditioner. Tech thread exit is right over there -->I don't think it is, as the last several nVidia drivers have had odd issues with FFXI.

Nah my PC is not running hotter then it should be, as I stated numerous times heat is only an issue with FFXIV. When I power my PC on my CPU temp is 24C idle, when XIV is running it is 32C. I have swapped cases from a Raidmax to a Corsair 800D re-thermal pasted everything with IC Diamond 24 paste. The only thing I have not done is swapped out the stock fan on my GPU. The GPU really does seem to be working hard when playing XIV and that is it. This is the only game I have seen those temperatures from, so in reality it must be an issue with the way XIV is rendering and storing things in memory.I don't think it is, as the last several nVidia drivers have had odd issues with FFXI.

Heh Nvidia has always had issues with XI.
I didn't know the PC version had the Auras for Summons until I upgraded to an AMD/ATI card because the Nvidia cards refused to render the glowy effect. It didn't render it on GM's either.
I thought it was just a discrepancy between the PS2 and PC versions at the time. Then changing the card. "Bang" magically delicious and I see all the effects in full detail.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
I think this is why that next gen engine designer was brought in to work on the systems. They are probably working on streamlining everything and tightening up the graphics.

I hope so or i'm going to start making petitions to put walls all around any open space in limsa so i dont have to see those ugly ass cliffs.
