A Decent cooler is advised for everything. -_- It will keep your temps lower for every single thing you do. Also, you probably wouldn't need better coolers if you guys didn't buy referance cards. Likewise "Optimisation" won't magically lower your cards temp by 5C+. Whatever SE does won't lower your heat issues.

If the 80$ is spent on for more than just this game, I am sure you would see the need too.

My GTX 570 peaks at around 65 degrees C and my i7 rarely touches above 50. Granted, I have good cooling in my system, the game is still a massive system hog.

Someone earlier articulated my feelings exactly that FFXIV feels like it is running via emulation rather than a native configuration. I just hope they get around to optimizing the engine at some point.

I'm pretty sure the EVGA cards are not considered reference cards

This, you really need to stop spouting to everyone to buy coolers, is it your job to sell them or something?. Most GPUs come with decent coolers these days unless you buy older cards.

"This" was directed at you as your post was spot on, the rest was for the cooler salesman.

EVGA does not make their own PCBs. They ONLY sell Reference cards and reference cards have the suckiest coolers. >_> THe only reason to buy a reference card is to Watercool it or to buy an awesome air cooler like the Accelero Xtreme.

Although it is cheaper to just buy a Non-reference card with a proven cooler...like the Twin Frozr stuff or certain HIS models. Not to mention that you don't risk breaking the card trying to remove the cooler or voiding warranties.

I am suggesting you buy a cooler, yes, because you are having heat problems. Optimising the code will not reduce the heat it carries with it by a large margin.

There should never be a reason to buy a new cooler from your Graphics card, unless:

    -Your fan dies
    -You are overclocking
-You live in the desert with no Air Conditioning.

Doesn't matter if it's a stock cooler or not. The majority of players do not possess the motivation to swap out a GPU cooler just for the sake of a poorly optimized game. End of story.
