The only reason to is you believe you'll get a better chance at an invite. Otherwise there's nothing stopping you from supplying your computer specs when you submit your report, because like on these forums, they ask basic questions about your hardware and ISP etc. That's the basic setup of any bug report form.

So if you updated, if you get an invite you simply just use your newest specs in a report, what you supplied on an application doesn't need to be changed.

I think he fears his old computer sucks monkies and his new one is better :P. But beyond the fact he wants better chances - why not? Why should someone not keep an accurate and update profile for SE to successfully pull the information and users they actually want to pull.

"To stop the cheaters" isnt adequate because the cheaters can cheat the first time, and no one knows the proper specs to get in so there isn't any real rigging of your application.

But they may not want your new specs. If you can give an accurate representation of your system that is better for SE in the end. Otherwise they are testing things they dont care to test.

The benchmark they didn't fully explain what each one would be, but good chance it would have all the races and genders, but the creator isn't until close to launch, which is a long ways off.

They consider pc specifications but what makes you think they prioritize people with good pc's? For all we know they might want a lot of people with bad ones to test it.

    well, learn something new then

It's actually their mysterious nature is a big part of the reason I like them so much. They're basically the mages of the series, though I like them because they don't entirely look the part. But they are very magical beings in nature, and by The Crystal Bearers (far in the future as far as the series is concerned) they basically completely lose their corporeal form and are entirely magical beings. In the early games, they have bodies and have a feathery, bird-like appearance (except their heads which you never see). In TCB, they don't really have a body at all and their armor essentially is their body.

You had the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS? I had that on my second laptop. The 8000 series is EXTREMELY faulty and can cause your motherboard to fry. That's what happened to me 4 times with that card. I'm very surprised you were even able to run the first version of FFXIV on that laptop. Not even my 3rd laptop with the 9600M GT could run the game, so now my current one has GeForce 555M GT 3GB of RAM on the card. I could play the game on this laptop, but I would have to let the game rest every few hours or so.

way to comment on the quote long after the rest of us had moved on...

I can tell you I was better suit for alpha back then but not anymore. I probably not gonna qualify for alpha if I fill out the new app now.
They are purposely picking people who do and don't meet the specified requirements- they need a broad range in order to determine what it does and doesn't actually work on. In short, your PC specifications likely had basically no effect on your chances to get in to the alpha.

But, you acknowledged that in your post, so I'm not sure what you're trying to say. The only reason to want to change your application is because you want to try to increase your chances, but the thing that the person wanted to do is somthing that probably wouldn't have impacted their chances.

Then why can't they update the app with more current information?

o.O didn't you read what I said? "I should update my app so my invite can go to another person who is better suit for alpha." Because I don't have time for it anymore why should I be a placeholder.

Allow people to update the information only benefit SE on the alpha testing as whole.

SE should abolish the whole application process and give legacy members first call in both Alpha & Beta. I honestly think your computer has nothing to do with who they're picking because I know people who have crappy/ancient PC's and they still got an invite.

As Alhanelem has said they appear that they are choosing just about everyone (those who do, and those who do not meet requirements, as well as those that freaking melt the requirements). I'm sure they have some sort of ratio that they are striving for but as a matter of an outsider without data its just pretty random.

I dont think SE should only let legacy members in though as there are many members that are either only joining recently or left a while ago - these people SE is hoping to draw back also. Not only that but they dont want to appear being prejudice, I'm sure.

Its alright to cry when you get missed - but the chance of being missed (with what we know of their parameters) is pretty high lol. I mean only 1/6 of the US applications where accepted the first round and it appears these next rounds will be very very small amounts (mostly because people don't stop logging in :P so there is no room).

If you go through my posts I agree that OP should be able to update their information but I hope I haven't given anyone the impression I think it will increase or decrease his chances. I only said it will give SE more accurate information to pull tests from (which is the whole purpose of alpha). For all we know OP has a better chance with a worse computer and updating will lower his chances.
