animated movies

hi, my thought is that if mmo's especially A+ ones like final fantasy series could easily create there mmo's with so many cut scenes in it that it makes a full movie.

what i mean is simple, make all the cut scenes so that they if they were linked together make a full movie.(or most of one) then along with selling the mmo. players and even non mmo'ers can buy or rent the movie.

in general it makes more sense i guess saying ok we are making final fantasy 17 a online mmo again. lets make a straight to dvd animated movie with it's story. splice it into the mmo as the main story. then let us also want to buy that movie on the side just to see it all together. or at least half of it into the game.

in general that would mean they are making money on the movie and the game. plus it's all voiced and payed for, and also higher quality right? just a thought that mmo's can start going this route for extra cash. at same time giving us all literally the game story as a full movie.

oh also what up SE why we not get any new movies in so long of a time? i want to see some films with summoners in the story! in theater, straight to dvd what have you. get to it.

There's a difference between making ingame cutscences that render with your character vs rendering movies such as the opening and ending with the Midlander's pt

I don't see how a dvd release could work for the ingame CG's unless they made a low res version of the Midlander to represent "us".

For the full FMVs....those take a LONG ass time to do man. Like..LONG. There is a reason Pixar takes about 4-5 years to put out full length features...even though SE has some of the models already done (the Midlander's pt, Cid, the GC leaders etc), they'd have to rig more models, draw the complex scenery, texture it, light it etc. Then the fun part is rendering: about 1min of animation can take up to 6 hrs to render, depending how good their machine is. Now they could do a render farm but that's still a long time to render.

If we're adding voice acting, it would take even longer to release because of dubbing over..creating sound effects and other stuff.

These kinds of movies, SE can more than handle them, but are best left to the animation companies. I mean yeah, if XIV ever gets popular enough like VII is, maybe we'll see some movie like "Advent Children" pop, but for now, it's a bit too much to ask SE for Lol

when i went to look for one there is even someone who thought to do my idea and spliced all of them together ...granted it's only 14minutes long total. but it looks amazing. but if they think of the concept of selling it as a movie first and for most then they could of made a full film length worth of it. put the logical amount of it in the game and sold the movie as well. i'm sure every d3 player would of bought it. same would go for a final fantasy version.

though you might be right i don't know how much work would go into it and time but i figured theres tons of straight to dvd animated movies and anime that come out. it would be easy for any mmo to do this and then toss it into there mmo and double dip on the profits for both. lot of games are coming out with straight to dvd animated movies these days, like resident evil and others i forget names but seen.

I kind of like the idea.
I have many friends who share a love of the FF series with me but don't play xi or xiv because they don't really play MMOs or don't wanna pay the monthly sub.
So I think a movie telling the game's storyline would be pretty awesome =D

You're forgetting that that example is non contiguous. Making a feature length movie out of cutscences and planning game play around those cutscences would be damned near impossible.

the gaming industry has been making games from movies for a long time now. if they only just reversed the order of it then it would make sense no? game first then movie? even if they only put say 20mins of it into the game. it probably would sell twice as many of those type of movie based games. it's like playing a game and getting a sneak peek too lol.

don't get me wrong i don't think this can happen or asking for it for ffxiv. but i think within a few years time for it to make sense to try and combine the movie and gaming industry a little more then it already is. maybe i don't really get the complications of it but there must be things in this direction that they can do.

Movies have been made based off of games.... and they rarely convert well now that I think about it.

But on the flip end, final fantasy advent children was bad ass. I also don't consider spirits within to be related to the FF series as it has NO elements of FF whatsoever. It's also not a direct game -> movie conversion.

An example of bad conversion is that old live-action mario bros crap......

a miniseries or online web series involving adventurers in Eorzea would be cool. A fun way to flesh out the world.
