Not only this would have provided SE with a more focused and dedicated testing pool, but it would have also reduced by a lot the number of "dummy" testers that just apply to every alpha/beta in order to have a new free game to play for a couple hours and quit afterwards without providing a speck of feedback.

Not to mention the fact that it would have shown consideration for the feedback of those that provided their support for the game and its team when everyone else was spotting on it.

This forum isn't the only source. There are plenty of social networks and other forums to pull data from.

For a beta this might be a good way cause its all about bugfixing, localization and so on. Alpha focuses more on Server Stress tests and some other basic tests. You don't even need so many focused testers you need alot of dummy tester that run around on the server.

I Remember when Alpha test for 1.0 started we had same discussions in the FFXI forums when ppl complained that they didnt get in after playing XI for many years. If we gonna have the same Situation in the beta and masses of Legacy player dont get in at all, i can accept your arguments but not now for alpha selection.

Actually the fact that it's a stress test means that accepting all the active players over the inactives would have made even more sense and would have been even more doable.

With dummy testers you don't have any insurance that they'll even touch the game for more than an hour or so, providing less stress to it. That's what a dummy tester is. He applies to every test he can, downloads the game, plays it for an hour or two, then moves to the next. Providing no feedback and no staying power.

On the other hand, dedicated players would test the hell outta the alpha, staying online as much as they can.

Also, to stress test the servers and the systems, the hardware setups of the users are less important than in a beta, where you have to fine tune the engine in order to maximize compatibility with as many hardware combinations as possible.

His posts does have a point though especially if you step outside of these official forums where you know, it's not a good idea to go too into detail about anything alpha related including invites which is still a grey area.

You'd see he has a lot of valid concern.

I'm also a long time player of FFXIV 1.0 since Alpha to End on its transition. I see a lot of truths & facts in the things everyone is talking about on the thread. SE is in fact inviting inactive players, Bait & switching its loyal paying current players (those of us who didnt get an invite yet & still waiting), Alpha isnt over its still going on if it was over the servers would down & the Alpha forums would be closed, Players are also getting multiple invites to Alpha which is unfair to the player who wants to test for Alpha in helping SE succeed & still waiting. The selection process isn't as great as most MMO's i've played in the pasted 10 yrs I've been playing . Alpha players shouldn't be given a silver platter/ grandfathered into beta, just because they tested Alpha but it seems SE is continuing to not listen to its players and going forward in doing so.

I would like to see a petition topic on the issues we are facing, so we can put a stop or slow down in which the Dev. Team & Comm. Team will have to answer the questions we want to see answered too.

This latest round seems to have really ruffled some feathers. Either way you go, it's not long until beta so eventually no one will be missing out. Though I still bet many will be disappointed by their out of control expectations.

SE set the expectations, not us.

I definitely respect your concerns in this. While it is okay that I don't get alpha, I most definitely do not like how SE approaches the selection here. I do not wish for them to practice beta selection like they did alpha and I most definitely hope that Legacy Members are looked upon first in this selection. Not saying to alienate non-Legacy Members, but we are the ones who have stuck by the worst moments of the game, throwing 9.99 a month at it.

I feel like any company who would be in this situation would cater to the active players first. I understand the situation somewhat with Alpha, despite how sketchy their selection methods are, but I definitely hope the same practices do not come into beta.
