i agree, but it doesnt need to be a macro(able) function. one simple idea could be< somebody may have come up with this all ready, i didn't read every thing. > after you have done your /readycheak or w/e you wanna lable it, and see that such an such must be afk didn't respond, is just right click their name in the party list and it sends them a louder <call>/chyme in tell. the rest of the party don't get bleedin ears.

A very informative post. Thank you, Camate.

What kind of specialized UI are we talking about? If I remember, Phalanx was one of those skills where you need to block first. Isn't it as simple as giving it a unique effect like combo? I suppose with the UI even combo is kinda hard to see, and you usually know it's available.

There is nothing more annoying for UI than not being able to move that one item around or hide that one annoying widget I can't stand seeing, or changing the font to just the right size for my screen. For example, in WOW I couldn't move the chat window to the bottom of the screen, and that main bar below was in a fixed location - annoyed me to no end. In The Secret World, font size "large" was still way too small. In TERA, I couldn't change certain key bindings. For the developers to have more freedoms planned for FFXIV so people can make it just the way they want it, that is invaluable and will be much appreciated.

I can make the minimap or radar bigger or the names of objects on screen larger. My vitals can also be made larger. So I can see better much health and mana I have . I know this is not what everyone needs but it is something I and probably more then they care to admit could benefit from. This is by now way a change to the game I think should be earth shattering just more helpful. I for one need and want a more scalable UI. Please let us make things larger on screen while keeping 1080p resolution. Thanks.
There is no scalable UI. You are simply able to drag UI elements anywhere you like. Some UI elements are stretchable, but they can not be enlarged. As far as I know the only way to have a larger UI is to run the game at a lower resolution.

This video (as well as all the other videos on finalfantasyxiv.com) shows the game running at 960x540. 1920x1080 is 400% larger. In other words the UI will be one quarter of the size shown. So you have a very tiny UI.

Being able to move and scale UI elements does NOT benefit the player in anyway. You just want to move stuff for the sake of customization. That is bad, and you will always find changing it has unintended side effects that often force a complete reset of the UI anyhow. The Devs have played this game already MUCH more than you have. They better understand it. Let them decide the UI layout.
You recommend that they don't allow customization, but you use the words "far too small," indicating that you're dissatisfied.

The devs could fix this by making the UI scale automatically to the resolution, but the next issue that display resolution is independent of screen size. I.e. my old 30" TV and newer 55" are both 1920x1080; however, I would not want the UI to be the same size on both. That said, some people use huge computer monitors right in front of them, while someone might use a TV across the room. Their screens may be the same size, but the person up close would probably want less UI and more open screen, while the person across the room needs their UI large enough to read from across the room. Suggesting that each person rearrange their furniture/computer to accommodate the UI size is every bit as far-fetched as asking car manufacturers to rearrange the dash to each person's specifications.

It's much easier to code FFXIV to accommodate everyone by customization than to ask everyone to adapt to the pre-sets.

<call#> is a fantastic feature that allows for us to alert AFK players that something is happening, and they need to get back ASAP. Or for waking up that asleep at keyboard player who has been playing for 16 hours straight already (though if they've been playing that long they should've already went to bed).
