The Alpha Videos have all been captured with the game running at a resolution of 960 x 540. And the game renders the UI as a 2D overlay. So yes the UI looks a little large in those videos but it's still acceptable. But at 1920x1080, they are far too small.

Here are some snapshots showing how the UI looks at 1920x1080. You'll notice it's hard to make out.

Being able to move and scale UI elements does NOT benefit the player in anyway. You just want to move stuff for the sake of customization. That is bad, and you will always find changing it has unintended side effects that often force a complete reset of the UI anyhow. The Devs have played this game already MUCH more than you have. They better understand it. Let them decide the UI layout.

Wait what?? lol How does being able to make a UI bigger/smaller and being able to move the pieces not benefit the player? If I am more comfortable with my hp bar at the top of the screen because that's where im used to looking?? or moving the hotbar to the left or right because that's where im used t o clicking.

I'm sorry that has got to be the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard.

Its like me saying -- No you're not supposed to drive with the mirrors where you can see other cars, I set them where they need to be and I've been driving longer so I know best. lol.... cant believe u said that lololol

A better analogy would be the car dash. Do you need to customize it to use it adequately? Or can you spot the necessary information on your own? Now imagine if you could customize it. In fact everyone could. Would that benefit the driving population? Or would it waste everyone's time in the long run?

UI customization is a curiosity. It's far from necessary. You're human. You are able to adapt much better than you probably realize.

See here is where u are wrong. The analogy I used was PERFECT for comparison sake. Your just saying that the dash is one because it better suits your opinion. Fact remains, being able to move and scale the UI the way YOU want too DOES benefit the player.

What if my eyesight is poor, are you going to tell me just deal with it because scaling the UI bigger wont benefit me? I really dont think you actually thought it through...

Ive been playing MMO's a VERY VERY long time and you're not gonna try to tell me that it doesn't benefit the player, because it does.

So go ahead, go drive that car of yours with the mirrors where the dealer put them because adjusting them to YOUR liking clearly wont have a benefit to you am i right??

    lolol, wow!

I agree with you, my eyesight is /terrible/, even with strong prescription glasses (gogo +10) I find myself squinting at tiny fonts and when I drawn I lean reeeeeeeeeeally close to the screen so I can see the details easier without having to zoom in too far.

Fully scalable UI will benefit me greatly (as it has done with other games that have a scalable UI), mostly the chatlog side of things so I can reed teh wurdz, but hell even minimaps and the like too!

I'm really excited to see what it's like~ blind peoples, represent! XD

Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means

Its not "necessary' as in we won't die if we don't have it, but being able to tailor the UI to our liking increases our comfort level, and what is efficient for one person isn't necessarily efficient for the other. More options is *generally* (there are exceptions) a good thing.

Would that benefit the driving population?
The problem with your statement here is customization isn't intended to benefit other people directly- its for your own benefit. However, if a certain layout is more efficient for you, other people can certainly feel the benefit. If people like things a certain way, who are you to say they shouldn't be able to have it? It's not like making the UI more flexible would reduce the content available to the game and such- the UI, the sound, the gameplay, the world, these things are all made by different people.

Complete and utter hogwash. Moveable and scalable UI is pretty much a standard now. In MMOs you end up having to play many different ways and placing your UI to what is more comfortable and pleasing to you can really help in adapting. This is no single player game where you are directed to play according to how the game is designed.

MMOs are very different beasts then that. The UI needs to be adaptable to you, not the other way around. And the less the devs offer the more it invites players to find their own unlegit solutions. To boot.

To the OP, scalable should be there for sure as for showing and not showing certain windows I hope that's in too, especially since the disapearing UI like we had in 1.0 is gone now?!

You recommend that they don't allow customization, but you use the words "far too small," indicating that you're dissatisfied.

The devs could fix this by making the UI scale automatically to the resolution, but the next issue that display resolution is independent of screen size. I.e. my old 30" TV and newer 55" are both 1920x1080; however, I would not want the UI to be the same size on both. That said, some people use huge computer monitors right in front of them, while someone might use a TV across the room. Their screens may be the same size, but the person up close would probably want less UI and more open screen, while the person across the room needs their UI large enough to read from across the room. Suggesting that each person rearrange their furniture/computer to accommodate the UI size is every bit as far-fetched as asking car manufacturers to rearrange the dash to each person's specifications.

It's much easier to code FFXIV to accommodate everyone by customization than to ask everyone to adapt to the pre-sets.
