UI customization is a curiosity. It's far from necessary. You're human. You are able to adapt much better than you probably realize.
Its not "necessary' as in we won't die if we don't have it, but being able to tailor the UI to our liking increases our comfort level, and what is efficient for one person isn't necessarily efficient for the other. More options is *generally* (there are exceptions) a good thing.

Would that benefit the driving population?
The problem with your statement here is customization isn't intended to benefit other people directly- its for your own benefit. However, if a certain layout is more efficient for you, other people can certainly feel the benefit. If people like things a certain way, who are you to say they shouldn't be able to have it? It's not like making the UI more flexible would reduce the content available to the game and such- the UI, the sound, the gameplay, the world, these things are all made by different people.

Complete and utter hogwash. Moveable and scalable UI is pretty much a standard now. In MMOs you end up having to play many different ways and placing your UI to what is more comfortable and pleasing to you can really help in adapting. This is no single player game where you are directed to play according to how the game is designed.

MMOs are very different beasts then that. The UI needs to be adaptable to you, not the other way around. And the less the devs offer the more it invites players to find their own unlegit solutions. To boot.

To the OP, scalable should be there for sure as for showing and not showing certain windows I hope that's in too, especially since the disapearing UI like we had in 1.0 is gone now?!

You recommend that they don't allow customization, but you use the words "far too small," indicating that you're dissatisfied.

The devs could fix this by making the UI scale automatically to the resolution, but the next issue that display resolution is independent of screen size. I.e. my old 30" TV and newer 55" are both 1920x1080; however, I would not want the UI to be the same size on both. That said, some people use huge computer monitors right in front of them, while someone might use a TV across the room. Their screens may be the same size, but the person up close would probably want less UI and more open screen, while the person across the room needs their UI large enough to read from across the room. Suggesting that each person rearrange their furniture/computer to accommodate the UI size is every bit as far-fetched as asking car manufacturers to rearrange the dash to each person's specifications.

It's much easier to code FFXIV to accommodate everyone by customization than to ask everyone to adapt to the pre-sets.

I stoped playing GW2 cause the UI there is not moveable... I have a res of 6000x1080 and the chat windows was on one side. it was giving me a neck pain going back and forward between monitors.

    Go figure...

    Greetings everyone!

I have a few updates to give you in regards to various aspects of the UI for A Realm Reborn.

First, in regards to chat log font, we received a bit of feedback stating that in screenshots, as well as the Alpha Test, the font felt a bit too small. We will be making it possible to change the size of the font in the chat log config settings, and instead of just having "small," "medium," and "large" font options, it will be possible to indicate a specific font size.

Next, we will be adding notification sounds so that when you are invited to party or linkshell, or receive a trade request you can recognize them quicker. We are also currently looking into making it possible to change the sounds for tells in the config.

There were a few questions asking if there would be a feature where you can make sounds that other players can hear via macro or the chat log, similar to the "calls" from FINAL FANTASY XI; however, we currently do not have any plans to implement this kind of feature. The main reason why is that we will be setting the game up and making adjustments so that everyone can play smoothly without needing to rely on these kinds of sounds. However, if there are enough players that feel strongly about this feature, we will look into it again.

When it comes to UI organization, by using the HUD layout mode you will be able to move various aspects of the UI around to your liking, including buff effects and such. It will also be possible to configure the action bar so that it is constantly displayed, and you can make it so multiple action bars are displayed at the same time.

Just a quick note on buff effects while on the topic; in the Beta Test buff effects will be indicted on your character's stats, but in the future we are planning to show the effects from buffs separately from your character's normal stats.

Finally, for weapon skills like Phalanx that can only be used when fulfilling certain criteria, we received some feedback that mentioned it was difficult to know when these weapon skills can be used and how long they had left before they could execute them. Due to this we are looking into ways to make it easier to recognize, and one example of what we are looking to do is displaying a specialized UI.

The Beta Test is right around the corner, so get amped and try out all of the new UI features when the time comes!

I am for adding this feature. I would make it so players can toggle the sound of them on and off should some one try to spam them or something.

I think having the UI setup to not rely on sounds is great but the "calls" are great for waking up that white mage who is zZzZzZ

Sweet, so Square is going to go wake up our party members when they fall asleep during a 15 minute lockout.
