As a DPS there is no way for me to judge and evaluate my performance and the performance of others without damage/dps meter addon. This kind of stuff typically isn't put in a default UI by game developers so it is up to the community to make an addon for it. For DPS players who care about their DPS in any MMO including FFXIV:ARR a dps meter addon is a must, there is no arguing this fact.
Funny because I have known a lot of DPSers in other games that use those addons and still can't pull top DPS from me when I used to do that with no addons... it is called knowing how to play your class... you don't need an addon to do that...As a DPS there is no way for me to judge and evaluate my performance and the performance of others without damage/dps meter addon. From what we've seen, the stock UI's enmity meter is both exceptionally well-integrated into the UI and informative. Can't ask for more than that.
A real-time damagemeter capable of providing detailed breakdowns can be an extremely useful tool because it provides fast and clear answers to questions any intelligent DPS player should be asking about their own performance (versus poring through combat logs, tabulating percentages and proportions one damage result at a time). Regardless of how such tools are used to compare oneself to others, they are invaluable for self-improvement. The mere presence of a tool does not indicate anything about a player, one way or the other.
The sooner more information about addon development is released, the better, but given how many resources are currently tied up in development of the game itself, demanding answers and declaring deadlines is both petty and unrealistic at this point.
No, i wont be choosing another game cause i dont have addons... dont say "people" say "i will choose another game if theres no add ons" and if that is really the case, then w/e -1 on server moving on.
your talking about this like it makes or breaks a game, its exactly what it sounds like.. "ADD on"
if they have it on release ill use it, if not i wont cry about it, theres parser to help me know the overall DPS of an event, and go into specifics.
so theres always gonna be a way even if parser went down today.

I hope they use a free enough language that we can animate the interface.. XD
I really want some sexy radial wheels and such... (pipe dream?)
It's not a matter of not wanting them, it's a matter of not being in any kind of hurry to get them when it's more important that we get a quality game with a quality standard interface such that addons are a bonus, not a necessity.Normally i don't respond to inane comments, but please what is your reasoning for not wanting addons at launch? Not having addons just puts FFXIV:ARR further behind competing MMOs. When people see they don't have basic addons like damage and threat meters they will be likly to choose another game.
There is no good reason for arguing against SE bringing out an addon dev kit as eairly as possible.
