A DPS meter other then yourself is not productive. THis game (including how it is in alpha) won't work well with a dps meter trying to tally other players (eve nthe best ones is not 100% accurate). What you will end up with is idiots who try to spam damage to be top dog in DPS, and neglect their duties, whipping the party, and missing timing to link special finishers. You will end up making enemies fast.

Other addons for farming, perhaps, but those are built in and unlock with ability levels.

Self DPS, maybe, but even that will lead to players not doing tasks. It fien to test out build gear, but limited.

It will depend on if mods can detect the target name or not (for weakness information). I am curious on what kind of lengths they are going at for this addon system. Simple pieces of information go a long way... Though I really hope that they at least let us add our own interface elements (like a special customized ability bar and such).

To make stuff function better, but not actually altering the gameplay.
So let people make a "better grass" mod if they want to.
Would be wild if they let you mod the models XD

HD FFXIV here I come lol

From what i've seen, it seems that's about as far as they're going with it. So UI Customization, but not much beyond that.

I would love a weakness finder more as a skill, like in the other FF games.

Skill abilities like that wuld be nice. Such as a skill to see mob elements (similar to other FF games and Lost Odyssey).

They plan on customizable bars, themes, color layouts ect. Which is good, right now it is a default scheme in alpha.

I don't want the game looking like a WOw addon mess, that works quarky, or just results in a creen of mashable buttons. I prefer a streamline, customizable, flipping system.

Entire thread is TL;DR, but here's this.

FFXI: People got on, and still do get on, for years without needing any sort of add-ons.
FFXIV: People got on for the entirety of the life of the first version without needing add-ons.

If you really, really cannot get by without the crutches that add-ons provide, maybe you should play a different game. Maybe a game where all the info is spoon-fed to you.

Or maybe one that plays itself.

The FFXI statement is entirely NOT TRUE. Windower, which is not supported by SE, did allow you use "add-ons." Most of which were harmless like TP and MP tracking, Skill recast timers, or distance for target tracker. All of these are mostly non intrusive add-on as these were just read from the data sent you your client.

As for FFXIV add-ons, I'd love to see a distance tracker, it'll help ranged and magic user make sure they are within usable distance of their skill. As mentioned before add-ons are not "needed" but can help newer player get a grasp of they system, allow older players to track statical output(DPS or EXP/hour).
As for PS3 not getting add-ons; well you can't rule out the possibility that the add-on SDK will not include a PS3 part as well. Add-ons can be categorized as free DLC. SE did mention, if I recall correctly, that they will be checking the add-on before giving their support as reconized add-on.

Many of you need to think outside of the box. Yes, it is very often that add-ons tends to follow the "help me play better" scheme, but it can go way beyond this. There are many things add-ons can help to reduce server processing/lag for the game client.

EVE Online has been doing add-ons that gives players methods to access game related information, w/o having to have a game client. ARR can have those kinds of add-ons as well. Non-game-client add-ons such as emails, events, LS/FC membership access, are just some of the possibilities.

When the game is running perfectly. since as you say it is an "addon" not a core feature of the game. you don't need to see how much your DPS is to start attacking a mob.

No we don't. We need the game to be playable and fun.

Because SE won't divert personal and resources into an addon feture when they are testing if the servers are stable

When i look at it, the addons that they allow are UI customization only... all others add ons such as threat meter, are provided by the dev, as they do not want PS3 users unable to have them too...
