Also, Yoshi didn't change the billing system. That was already being changed.
I have known a person who couldn't play FFXI for a year because they wouldn't take his credit card because of the Verified by Visa secure card thing which his card didn't have. Eventually they changed it so you didn't need that and he started playing FFXI again but it was a year later. My card didn't have it either but luckly I had a PS2 which let you enter cards that didn't have the security thing they wanted.

If your trying to sell a service in this case MMO subscriptions you want to make it as easy as possible for people to pay you. There were several people who just flat out quit FFXI after SE wouldn't take their card anymore.

Its not good business practice to not accept a wide variety of credit cards then all of a sudden with like no warning at all say your going to start accepting certain cards with an obscure security feature that many cards don't have is pretty inexcusable.

Then SE went for Crysta + 3rd party payment system, click and buy and playspan, this didn't go over well at all. People complained about this lots, and eventually they added more options, like pay Playspan with your credit card for Crysta.

They are finally at the point now where they just accept credit cards without going through one of their 3rd party payment sites but it took them awhile to get there and it was mainly due to the mass amount of complaining.

I also had issues with my CC about 3 years ago, after years paying FFXI with the same CC it expired and it was a NIGHTMARE for them to accept my new CC that was essentially the same CC but with a different expiration date. After talking with several employees at the bank and calling my CC company nobody knew what the hell was a "3D Secure" CC. Finally I decided to spend hours talking with one SE agent to another and finally, after at least 20 conversations, I found the only one that knew how to do his job, "Agent Jassi" was his/her name. It took 2 minutes to get my new CC working.

Paying FFXIV has been really easy, I just buy exactly the Crysta I need using PayPal, that way I don't even have to bother with a recurring fee or whatever, I pay what I want when I want and leave 0 crysta in the account.
