What were the stress tests/server limits on 1.0?

The latest Letter From the Producer stated that they are stress testing limits of 5000 users per world logged in at a time and 1000 players per zone and are hoping to test that this will not be an issue. We also saw in the live letter earlier this month that over 100 characters can be displayed at one time on screen before they start to fade out of view.

Compared to 1.0, how good/similar will this be to what we have been seeing? Does anyone know what the server loads were on 1.0, and what areas we'll see improved in 2.0? I know there will be an improvement, but I need someone to help me to visualize what game play will be like.

Considering the old team was secretive about things such as how you start the game, I doubt anyone will be able to give you any reliable info. Considering the old engine could only render 20 models at once, I'd say we're talking about max load of 1000 players per world.

I dont think the 1.0 servers could go over 100 players in a single area at once without suffering. Probably even less than that.

From old screenshots I've kept around, each world had about 2400-2700 people with about 100-112 people per region, yes it was unplayable because the interface was hugely unresponsive with that many people online since after a maintenance the game was 100x more responsive and snappier with almost no one on, just like now.

I was a little concerned at the his idea that 5000/40 zones = 125 people per zone. In 1.0 i'd seen upwards of 800 people in ul'dah on the search, and if 2.0 hits off and brings in alot of new players like everyone hopes seems fairly likely similar numbers could be seen. especially if ul'dah remains the central hub for getting anything done.
