Good article
Love Mog Log,
While I highly doubt that ARR will feature rich player customization as we level. I do however, think that we'll see some sort of horizontal progression in the future. Something like merits did for XI.
I'm hoping that as we reach lv 50 "what ever job/class" they will branch off again, but with reassignable "skill points"
like lets sa you level Gladiator/Paladin to 50. After that 3 new skill trees open up. (you can only venture down one, but change allocation through a NPC)
3 tress open (just examples)
Mystic knight
Dark Knight
Onion Knight
Each of these new classes unlock either a new weapon type with skills or build upon the base job it came from.
So Maybe my Paladin is level 50, as I gain exp past the level cap, for everytime I recap my exp from 50 > 51 I gain a skill point. Then my exp bar is reset back to 50, to fill back up to 51 again. I can assign that skill point to a tree.
Lets say i want my Paladin to become a dark knight which is a DPS heavy tank. The first skill point allows me to equip a Scythe, and resulting WS. Further progression into the tree augments skills and abilites til you cap out and you're a full fledged Dark knight.
I highly doubt a system like this will come to XIV, but there will be some sort of level cap progression, there needs to be insentive for high level players to stick aroudnd other than a gear treadmil.
