Maybe it's because those of us who have been active players are at a greater risk to spill some beans to the community because we're overly excited about alpha and need to tell someone.

"There's a time when a man needs to fight, and a time when he needs to accept that his destiny is lost, that the ship has sailed, and that only a fool would continue. The truth is, I've always been a fool."

Kinda silly that a lot of people who have stuck around for this long didn't get into the final Alpha phase.
Oh well, there's always next time.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...
If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.
And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...
For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.
So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath
Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

I know many of us are very upset about not getting invites, myself included. I see many of you are up in arms about people that only played less than a month or so got into the alpha. A buddy of mine who played the game for about a week got in.
IMO, I feel that these people may be the best choice to be testers. A good sum of us, who are big fans of the game already, have less MMO experience than say someone who quit the game right away. I can say for myself the only other MMO I have played was FFxi.
My buddy, who quit FFxiv right away and got into the alpha, has played many different MMOs WoW, STOR, FFxi, Guild Wars. to name a few. I think people like him who quit right away have played more MMOs than the rest of us and therefor had more to compare FFxiv to.
So in a way these types of people will be the hardest to impress and would be the biggest critics of the game and therefor offer some of the best opinions to make the game better.
Please note: I know not every FFxiv player is like myself and has little MMO experience. But I know a part of the fan base is like. That's why that statement was made. Don't rage on me for that :P Good luck for the next phase of alpha testing!

So basically what you're saying is that it's safe to assume (even though the assumption is 100% blind) that people who quit earlier than the rest of us and did NOTHING for the game at all are better testers because they all have more second-hand knowledge of MMOs?I know many of us are very upset about not getting invites, myself included. Even if their other MMO experience is with the BAD games that you listed?
And that we should largely leave the future of EVERYONE's FFXIV: A Realm Reborn to people who did nothing to bring about it's creation in the first place, and allow them to infest it with features and suggestions brought from really bad, overhyped and done-up games?
That's some country-ass-bull**** right there, sir.

Hello, thanks for your comment. ^_^ I would not say my assumption is 100% blind but I will give you somewhat blind. I know more than just my one buddy quit FFxiv and for the same reasons. So basically what you're saying is that it's safe to assume (even though the assumption is 100% blind) that people who quit earlier than the rest of us and did NOTHING for the game at all are better testers because they all have more second-hand knowledge of MMOs?

People like us who already love FFxiv are somewhat biased towards other games. Kinda like you saying the games I listed are bad games, I don't really agree that they are bad. Well SOTOR kinda sucks for lack of content but WoW and GW are pretty good. SE knows we love ARR. We are impressed already.
The tough people to impress are the one week quitters. Because those people are biased towards FFxiv and would have never given it a second chance. SE knows if they can impress them then they have won the day.
Overall we know SE listens to us. Like you said this is everyone's FFxiv and we, the ones who have been supporting the game over the last two years, will be heard too. But they have been hearing just our opinions for a long time now. That's why I think the come back crowd will make some of the best testers out of all of us. Because there's a good chance that their opinions will differ from ours.

While this may be true, if you worked for SE and wanted to make sure you impressed these people to come back, would you give them priority to participate in the Alpha with all the lacking features an Alpha will inevitably have?
...and yes, I am a little bitter, mostly because I suspect Alpha testers will get first dibs on participating in Beta.

you had to of signed up to participate in Alpha >.> why don't you blame people registering and not the company for accepting them? While this may be true, if you worked for SE and wanted to make sure you impressed these people to come back, would you give them priority to participate in the Alpha with all the lacking features an Alpha will inevitably have?

no no.. Im in same boat as Mrfox. and its not country ass bull, he is correct. they want to know why those people left and how to make it better so they dont leave again. I dont care if you played 1000 MMOs this is ARR and how can we make it better for you is the idea..

He implied that people who got into the game also somehow have amazing second-hand knowledge of MMOs, and he also implied that his wonderful assumption makes them the best testers for the game. Neither of these things are true.no no.. Besides, the people who quit the game early on probably won't make good testers, as many of them won't accept the chance to contribute to the game's evolution and growth. Instead, they could've sent invites to people they KNOW will test the game, who have played FFXIV up until the point of it's final save; those people are probably better choices for testers.
