Wrong. FFXI had a story at launch, but it was generally dull and didn't really have any impact until the later expansions fleshed it out. So you see Raogrimm was a victim and has seen a lot of unwarranted cruelty to beastmen and other races by the Humes. It's something that you really don't feel anything towards until you play a lot of the later expansions, specifically WotG.

You can hardly compare FFXI's current storyline to XIV's current storyline. Simply because FFXI has far more going on due to being alive and relevant for 7 or so years. Comparing that to an MMO which has only been around for 2 years, most of that time being emphasized on making the game less awful, is completely unfair. I will say that the old storylines of the original game were pretty dull and tedious, and I'm glad to see Yoshida and CoP's writer on board for A Realm Reborn, because the story has already gotten better in the time they've been around.

The interview, however, was pretty interesting to read, surprisingly Kotaku wasn't completely fucking retarded with one of their posts. The comments, not so much.

I do agree that they should be taking the good ideas from WoW and FFXI, and adding their own ideas once they have a steady game to work with. What Tanaka and the original team was doing was completely absurd, and while he wasn't completely at fault, his placing all of the blame on the original dev team was disgusting. As if he had nothing to do with it.
