SE Rep - can you share with us the criteria for selection of Alpha testers

I'm sure it was a random lottery. They mentioned they will invite more people if these people don't come and keep the numbers they need to test. What they didn't mention is that someone is guaranteed a slot just because that someone "stuck with" the game.

Or I guess we could go conspiracy and say it's because all the people complaining about not getting in seem to be more interested in getting in just to be able to see the game early rather than actually helping test.

I doubt that it is random lottery. The questions asked as part of the Alpha application are used by SE for some sort of screening. If it is pure lottery, then only Player's ID will be just enough.

Dear SE,

Can you share with us how you select Alpha testers? Please be more transparent. Coz it seems that the Alpha testers were mostly people who had spent only a short time with 1.0 - if I had known that this is your plan all along, I wouldn't have bothered to apply for Alpha.

Its too late to cry over spilled milk now but more transparency of your plans for Beta will help your fanbase better plan their time.

You want this so you can just specify the answers they want to hear, it would be the same as asking for answers for exam questions at school.

The alpha isn't over, they will continue to add testers, therefore they cannot disclose this information, people can still apply if they haven't yet, so if they disclose the info now you could never get in... Think of that?

That being said, I am surprised no SE Rep has replied so far in the English forums. In the JP forums, there is also a rage/disappointment thread going on and there at least a rep has replied to some questions posted by fans.

That is an issue, I agree, since alpha registration page states:



However, it seems that if we follow strictly the WORDING of the registration, it implies that to APPLY you have to be an active account holder. If you manage to get INTO the application, it seems that you may still be in the chance for it, judging by the support post:



And as I recall, in the application itself, it does not ask whether you were active or not.

I know of people that do, but it usually not the PR team. Coffee is needed.

From the alpha registration page:

Please Note:
- The software used during the Alpha Test is under development and will differ from the commercial version.
- Inquiries regarding selection methods and results will not be answered.
- Tester applications cannot be edited once submitted.
- Testers are limited to one application per person. Duplicate entries will be voided.
- Testers are prohibited from transferring, selling, or loaning any software related to testing.

We will select participants based on the information that is provided during the application process. Unfortunately, we cannot specify what criteria we will look for in the application.
* Please note that we will not be selecting participants in the order that the applications were received.

So no, they can't share it with us. Best to just be patient and wait your turn.

Maybe they said they want to make the game better, not play early? There are loads of reasons for them getting in and not us, when did SE say "Only legacy members will be able to participate in the alpha tests?" as far as I know, never, therefore no one is entitled to participate.

If anything these people are the best for it because they quit due to the poor quality of the game, if the alpha and beta is an improvement on release they will come back, let's face it we are all going to come back either way, but the people who quit who have no attachment to the game will see the flaws that we could miss.

If they managed to apply then you got nothing to bitch about XD if SE didn't want those guys to apply they should have set a filtering on the application page
