That is an issue, I agree, since alpha registration page states:

Application Requirements

- Must currently have an active FINAL FANTASY XIV account
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be willing to participate actively and submit bug reports in at least one of the following languages: Japanese, English, French, German
- Must have a PC that meets the minimum system requirements of the game

However, it seems that if we follow strictly the WORDING of the registration, it implies that to APPLY you have to be an active account holder. If you manage to get INTO the application, it seems that you may still be in the chance for it, judging by the support post:

How are the participants of the alpha test selected?

We will select participants based on the information that is provided during the application process. Unfortunately, we cannot specify what criteria we will look for in the application.
* Please note that we will not be selecting participants in the order that the applications were received.

And as I recall, in the application itself, it does not ask whether you were active or not.

Not exactly sure, but I applied while my account was inactive and it DID NOT ALLOW IT. Only after was I allowed to apply.

In which case, it may have been a glitch, because I had one friend who tried to apply with an inactive account, but the alpha registration page rejected him, or so he said. The fact that Dragonheart's friend managed to apply with an inactive account puzzles me.

It should be looked into. But we should still avoid NDA-breaches. I'll keep saying it, just like how people keep nit-picking on animations or grass or whatever. Find it annoying, deal with it.

I dont have issue with someone who apply the alpha, even though they wont attend the test..as long the application process is working as intended.
