Why do I keep hearing this?
A friend could always tell you IN PRIVATE, some of you people sound like the NDA is some pact that makes the police knock on your door if you tell anyone.
But then to bring it to attention on the OFFICIAL FORUMS? Which means that you've been in contact with people who breach NDA and hereby signifying that maybe you won't be a person who will also follow NDA? Meaning that you'll get less of a chance to get into alpha testing?
Maybe I'm the only one who sees the irony in this.
I'm not sure how a friend or a person I know being dishonest or not following NDA has any effect on me.But then to bring it to attention on the OFFICIAL FORUMS? Do the cops give you bad looks if one of your friends or acquaintances commits a crime? That's such an ass-backwards logic.
Not to mention the fact that you think SE handpicked testers rather than using an automated system is laughable at best. They don't peruse the forums to pick testers, they use a script and invite people who follow the criteria put into the script.
I know, I never said it didn't. That doesn't change the fact that some people are dishonest (or whatever you want to call them, dishonest is such a strong word) and will tell their friends/family anyway.
I'm not playing devil's advocate and saying it's totally cool to tell everyone, I'm just saying some people do it anyway.
It's not my interpretation, I'm just stating facts. I feel like you did not read this bit:
You can have sex, get drunk, do drugs and murder at 13, in private. Doesn't mean that it's right to do so. Same with NDA; as far as I know, it's like a contract between you and the company who issued it. You break it, you suffer.I'm not sure how a friend or a person I know being dishonest or not following NDA has any effect on me.

I never said SE handpicked testers. Thank you for putting words in my mouth. It's a whole lot different between picking testers and viewing who's breaching NDA and crossing their name off the list.
And why can't they? All it takes is for one of the reps to see who's posting non-NDA approved material, check their account, and cross their name of the list. God knows we have people actively admitting to breaching the NDA on the Official Forums of all places.
Certainly they can't monitor other places. But Official Forums is their own turf; if anyone's dumb enough to post material, and they pick up on that guy, well then. His own fault, not SE's.
And as for knowing a friend being dishonest having no impact on you whatsoever? Then why the hell does ARR still have the stigma of 1.0 hanging over it? Why do police routinely patrol the same areas of a city where violence is more prominent, even if certain residents are pure as angels?Disclosure of Proprietary Information
As stated in the “FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Tester Agreement,” testers are prohibited from publicizing any proprietary information related to the Alpha Test on external sites. In the event that we confirm that infringement has occurred, your rights to be a tester will be revoked and your FINAL FANTASY XIV account will be suspended.
We will announce if and when Alpha Test-related details can be publicized, so please take great care in their handling until they have been made public. For feedback and discussions between testers, please use the dedicated tester forum, which will open at a later date.
The fact that Dragonheart is pretty much crowing about knowing lots of people with invites means that he's probably not trustworthy to abide by the NDA. If he knew a dishonest friend, but kept silent, that's a different story.
"Let sleeping dragons lie." Dragonheart's just provoking the dragon, even if he's not a tester himself. Quoted from Bayohne's post:
It's pretty much black and white. No grey middle leeway for you to talk about the NDA. Heck, even me talking in this post may be a breach of the NDA itself. As Alpha Test content is under NDA, it is not allowed to be posted on official and external websites, including by users that are not Alpha testers. If you're unsure whether the information you want to post has been officially released, we ask that you refrain from posting it.
Oh for fuck's sake.
Again, I never said it was right, or cool or anything at all. All I said was that regardless of the NDA, people will breach to tell their friends etc etc.
I'm not trying to find loopholes in the NDA or anything like that, I'm tired of repeating this and it's getting a bit ridicolous tbh.

Then why did you bring it up in the first place?Oh for fuck's sake.

That's because it is precisely a contract between you and SE to not let anyone know about the alpha testing going on. Be it private or not, YOU ARE BREACHING NDA. People are merely reinforcing it; I don't see what's wrong with pointing out facts and rightful words.
As you find my posts ridiculous, I find your posts equally as ridiculous.
I brought it up because some people were marveled at the fact that OP had been told from a friend that he had received an invite.
I simply stated that while this friend clearly should not have told him, it happened anyway, and despite the NDA clearly stating you shouldn't, this is something that happens.
I didn't bring it up to say it's cool, I didn't bring it up to say it's fun and totally ok, I brought it up because it's happening anyway and that is unfortunate.
I never said there's anything wrong with it. What I said was that bringing up the NDA does not change the fact that some people breeched it anyway, you get me?
I'm not being passive agressive or anything, I'm just saying it happened and that's that.
No, it does say in the NDA you should not inform anyone. It's even been quoted a couple of posts ago.
