I feel cheated, like i bought into a scam and found out 2 years later after many payments that it was a toxic waste dump.

Same story here, my friend got an invite. Never seen him play XIV. Said he tried it out a few hours. So it seems SE really wants new players to test out the game. It does matter to me if i get an invite or not, because i really want to give that feedback so the ARR launch goes as smooth as possible in compared to my friend who doesn't have that much time for alpha. But these are things SE cannot predict and I can understand them in this decision.

The only thing better than an inactive player getting alpha pass, is someone who applies with both their main and mule accounts and gets access in both

You guys also need to remember that SE handed out Alpha invites during two events, didn't they?

As a company, it's simply not what you do. All matters of false entitlement aside, if I were Square Enix, I would want to get as many hard-core fans in the Alpha as possible so they can start their word-of-mouth campaign. That's free advertising. Nothing else makes sense.

And while we're on the topic of marketing, hearing about invites going out to people that tried the game for a month when it came out just simply makes no sense. Of course, this is not proven, but what can you say—it's not like SE discusses this with us, we have to make up our own stories.
